Can't refill water containers...

This is driving me nuts because I know it works, but has recently stopped.

I'm also getting some conflicting information I need sorted out. I have water taps, both stone and metal, but I have never been able to fill containers from them as they do not have an inventory option. I have however managed to refill from my stone reservoir before, but after recent patches I've not been able to refill the containers, either from this source or even open bodies of water.

I am using the PC version, keep it constantly up to date with steam. What's gone wrong?

They do have inventory, but you need to open the action wheel. I refill from the taps in my greenhouse all the time.

might have solved it myself with some unintended experimenting, seems my tap might be too far down river and it's reading as salt water (which is why my plots are still irrigated but nothing else works). Why it's doing it just now instead of before still confuses me, as I don't remember seeing anything about this in the recent updates, and the wikis never differentiated between types of water sources.

I can open any tap or other inventory with my "f" key.. not sure if that's default. also all water is fresh water, there is no saltwater in the game and thus far the devs have stated that it is not something they plan on implimenting.

then were stil at a problem of why my taps have never functioned as intended, or my reservoir failing recently. Unfortunately I won't be able to experiment any further tonight with re-running my water lines, so that will have to wait unless someone else has experienced a similar issue.

If you have already used your water containers in cooking, they may be bugged. Try making new ones. It might not be the taps with the problem. this was a bug a very long time ago, perhaps it has returned.

I've certainly not been able to cook with them either, but the issue with the tap existed before trying that. That does remind me though that I did drop them in my cooking pot at one point before I noticed the refill issue. Will give it a try.

The weirdness continues. Upon signing in my canteen is registering now as full, despite not wanting to fill yesterday. Perhaps the bug is not that the canteen isn't filling, but that my client isn't updating it's status and functions correctly. This is gonna get old real quick if I need to log in and out to take a drink, though

Part of the mystery is solved. My tank is still malfunctioning, but finally sorted out the trick of the water tap. YouTube videos I checked showed anyone who had a proper working tap had it suspended in the air, coming from a vertical pipe. Mine that I used for my garden were all around ground level with horizontal attachments, and this mysteriously prevents them from having an inventory. Ran a new line up and over for my personal use, and I finally can fill a canteen without running to the river.

This problem still exists. I had water run into my base, under the floor with the spigot sticking up. Didn't work at all. I had to remove it and put in a line above the floor, then it worked fine. Would be nice if they had fixed this sometime in the last FIVE years.

I think this might be an anti-meshing measure at this point. Prevent players from having access to a storage container that can be used on either side of the mesh, maybe. The fact of it being a water tap is just incidental as it being a storage container, so if it in any way clips the ground or a structure, no inventory allowed. Just a theory from my experiences with this crappy game
