Chian Bolas are useless
Me and my tribe mates decided to try chain out the new chain bola last night on a quetzal.

Disapointed,

First trying to hit a quetzal when fireing from the ground is extreamly difficult as the ballista has a very shallow fireing arc.

So we mounted it on a low level quetzal we got earlier and fired it point blank.

It hit, and the target fell out of the sky......And 10 seconds later the bola broke. I'm not kidding the quetzal fell out of the sky and after it hit the ground we got off 2 shots each and it broke and the quetzal fly away, Fireing a second boloa had no effect.

For there cost I was expecting them to hold a target at least 30 seconds like the basic boloa.

♥♥♥♥ 30 seconds, these are heavy duty bolas (with a high cost) that are required to be shot out of a ballista. These damn things should hold for a minute if not longer.

i guess the main issue is that if they increase the amount of time the bola is active it will make killing quetzals in pvp alot easier, and i cant imagine the ♥♥♥♥ storm that would happpen if people starting losing quetzals, that being said maybe make it last longer on wild quetzals only? would help since the damn things are already hard to tame as is

A better method would be to give the riders in PvP a means of removing the bolas if they are hit. A counter item or or pressing e or something. Then raise the time that it lasts.

that as well, i mean u can currently remove bolas from dinos that are bolaed, so i would assume u could if say ur quetz was as well, not sure, havent tested that

Well I glad we can all at least agree the "chain time" on wild Quetzals is no where near sufficient :D.

Oh and as an update, Me and two tribe members ended up chasing the target quetzal on our quetzal shoooting it with tranqs.

Atleast untill we got ambushed by a lvl 125 gigasauras launching itself off a cliff at us killing one of us outrights, and doing over 1.3k damage to our Quetzal leaving it extreamly low health lol.

SO were gona go with the box method of catching the damn bird.

Between the heavy boloa's, Hits on wings not registering, The scatty nature of the birds and the brain dead ai that INSISTS on flying over water when it feels sleepy....

It's a wonder anyone has a quetzal at a decent level

Yeah, feel the same way. They are useless for catching anything they are meant to stop. Hope they are gonna change that.

Not that this game hinges on realism, but its a metal chain bola...it *should* last significantly longer than primitive handheld bolas. And as for it being able to make killing Quetzals easier in PvP - that's the whole point of the chain bola - to lock down those bigger dinos so you can tame or kill them easier. If you don't want your precious quetzal killed in PvP - don't bring it to a raid?

You would be surprised how many shots you can get off when there are 3-4 of you in 30 seconds.

30 seconds would be fine, but they don't hold for 10 seconds let alone 30.

this ! have it last longer on wild quetzes ... or maybe even give the chance fro peoaple to eb able to break them on their tamed dinos, it would require an axe or something but would half the time it takes for it to stop working ?

Should be no problem, stats changes between wild and tamed dinos too. Shouldn't be to big a problem to program things working differently on wild dinos and tamed dinos, I hope? Plus the manually breaking of the chains when riding on the chained dino in question is a good idea. If people ride quetzals on official, they should probably also carry metal picks or hachets, which should be able to cut the chains. Make that a gameplay element.
