Also depends on your CPU. More RAM is always a good way And it Should improve your perormsnce but if your CPU causes The lag Even 128gb RAM wouldnt Change a Thing.

If your hosting the server off the same computer your playing the game on yes more RAM will help.

Also bear in mind that if you run the server from the computer you are playing on then you are asking that computer to do double the work. That may be your biggest issue. Unless you have really high end computer.
Companies like Host Havoc will host the server for you for about 20 USD. They are a really good company. You will have pretty much the same control now but your computer wont be required to do double work. Or if you have another computer at home try using that for the server.
If you are serious about running your own game servers and play more than one MP game you could host your own dedicated box. Good one though will run you about 60-80 USD

It is not doing much more work than just playing single player. Think about it, both methods still require the PC to host the entire island and all the dinos roaming on it. The only thing that would require it have more resources is how many other players on logging into the server at any given time.

When you play with friends through SP though your friends must stay with you. Why because in SP it is not creating the whole world but only where you are. That is the difference. I know at first that makes not sense but been there and tried that with a friend before we started paying for a server.

Is it a dedicated server on another computer?

Is it a dedicated server on the same computer that you also play the game on?

Is it a non-dedicated host?

Wait what?

First of all in Single Player your PC never ever loads the whole Island and every Dino roaming around, neither does the Server btw. It loads Parts of it based on your Position and the direction you're heading. Every other Dino will be considered in Stasis if not needed.

Second there is the dedicated Server that also loads any parts someone is near or heading too. I guess you're able to do the math how that might influence CPU/Ram Usage of the dedicated Server. More Player = More Ressources.

Back to the OP's Question, if the Machine is for the Server alone more Ram will probably not fix the lags you got. Check if the lags happens within a Timeframe like every 10Minutes. If so it might be the Server Saving the World, so to get a slight improvement there move the Server to a good SSD (not some cheap ♥♥♥♥ that is slower than a HDD)

edit: Dedicated on the same PC then the Game, you can't have enough RAM in that case + a really good SSD ;-)

Then yes, more memory should help a bit. Does the lag happen all the time? Or does it seem regular? The server saves every 15 minutes by default. If you have a slow hdd it will lag quite a bit at those times. If you have the server running on an ssd it almost completely eliminates the server save lag.

Also, what cpu are you running on?

Nope, that is a very good system, except for the low memory and lack of ssd's..

Get more ram and an ssd or two and you should be good.
