Only other reasons I can see to have two are a) each one boosts the other and b) they lay eggs which might be useful for something someday. (I suppose in theory there's also c) breeding, but these guys are so absurdly easy to get, and their stats don't matter, so why would you ever?)
Usage:
Pet it.
Craft lots of narcotics, while your tribe member is riding a dino.
Every 5 minutes you have to Pet it again.
Usage 2:
Go outside with a Rex or a Giga and have your tribe member above you with a Pteranodon or an Argentavis with a Lystrosaurus carried up.
Kill wild dinos and get more XP for your dinos (don't forget to Pet your Lystro every 5 minutes).
