Cheats, is it really ok to use them?
Ok guys here's something that's been on my mind for awhile. Cheats (or console commands) is it really ok to be using them?
Now I'm not making any accusations this is just something I've seen in general whether it be in game, or on YouTube.

Should we be shaming players that spawn gigas or spinosaurs and force taming them? Or is this just a game, for fun I might add, that shouldn't be taken all that seriously.

Don't get me wrong I love ark, but I only use console commands on single player, I believe it's a little unfair if people are online and spawning powerful dinos just they can beat the snot (unfairly) out of people. Anyways what's your thoughts on this, I'm just curious :)

You can only do this in single player, or on your own server (or a private server where someone chose to give you access to these.)
If you have the ability, you are in a position where you have every right to use them as you see fit.

If people do not agree with it, they can either not play on your server, or if the server is owned by someone else, they will simply not give you access to the commands.

Simply put: it's none of my business how anyone else uses them.

I don't know about xbox, but on pc only a server admin can use the console commands. On our server the admins are the two people actually paying for the server. Although they tend to not spawn stuff in just to be lazy, it's their server, they can do what they want. If it got to the point I didn't like it, I'd move on.

No I mean like offline, on single player. I don't have my own server. I only asked out of curiosity really, as I am aware some players use them, but not all obviously :)

As a total noob i will have to ask. What does it do? Turn of the bloom in the graphics? Because that is a problem for me. Not because my pc is bad but it is straining on the eyes.

It tones down the glaring light. If the game is hurting your eyes, use that command. You don't need to be an admin to use it. Turning down the bloom is the first thing I do when I log into the game.

In single player the person playing is the admin. It's their game. Really, in SP you're the only one there, why would it concern you in any way? They can't hurt someone else, unless they are spawning in lvl 300 dinos, taming them, uploading them, and then downloading them to a server they play on. In which case it won't be long before the server admin turns off the ability to download and/or bans them from the server.

What does it matter if it's Single Player? In single player people can do what they want, its their game. People need to get over this whole console commands thing and referring to it as cheating. The devs provided it as part of the game, it is not cheating as it is a functional part of ARK.

Holy lord. You just made alot of my annoyance about the lighting dissapar. Thank you alot
Youtubers use the gamma command, because the video would otherwise be unwatchable.
On my server I use console commands to:
-save the world before a restart.
-get ppls dinos out from under the ground.
-gamma command is enabled for all, not because of youtube but because it gets ridiculously dark and human eyes should adapt at least to some degree when there is a moon and stars out providing some residual light.

Personally I've never classified console commands as "cheating". Cheating for me is someone using some sort of third party character editor, map hack, speed hack, etc to gain an unfair advantage over everyone else, usually due to the fact they're unskilled with the game, bored or just wanna ruin everyone else's fun.

Exactly. Cheating is an unfair advantage.
Console commands would only be considered an unfair advantage and therefore cheating if the admin of the unofficial server was using it to their advantage or another players advantage.

People are abusing the game mechanics all the time wheter for personal revenge or just a crook's glory. They don't use console for the abuses, but the turnside of things laid out like they are. There are things you can do this to counter it, but sometimes the game is just unfairly against you and for these junk people.

The game itself is cheating in some matters, so it's just a game in the end, and if you love it too deeply, like junk people in the real world, this game will waste you.

Single player.... Who cares, it's using god mode on other 1-player games.

Up to the player, why would it matter to anyone else, and it's no one business but your own.
Kraken:1 May 29, 2016 @ 9:50am
I don't think anyone cares what you do in your single player world. I certainly don't, I view that as the ultimate sandbox version of the game where you can do whatever the heck you want to. If you want to sally forth on an army of Gigas against the Dragon from your castle that you built in an hour then go for it.
