Shudders so will anyone else be avoiding the swamp when leeches are added?? Phobia of them.
I know probably not and I will probably get some mean or nasty comments from this but I will not be able to go anywhere near the swamps to get sarcos for eggs etc once this patch is added in :( Am not asking them to remove the leeches or anything but I have a real phobia of leeches and till I can remove them from my game I will not be able to go anywhere near the swamps :( Which is sad cause it will spoil my game a bit :(

I am sad as its really hard for me knowing they are coming into the game! As I would have loved to have built in the swamp but had to avoid it knowing these were coming! Hence why I am on an island as far away from this area as possible so I can completely avoid it :( And it makes me sad that I feel I have to rush to get frogs and sarcos from the swamp to tame them as I just know I will not be able to go there once they are released. Will be asking for the ini file to remove them as soon as the update happens.

Hope I am not alone but I just can't do this to go anywhere near the swamp and I hate it and it really spoils the game for me knowing that and makes me so sad :(

Thanks guess I just needed to get it out there as the fear is becoming more and more real as it gets so close and everytime I play ark I spend the whole time thinking about having to avoid the swamp which is no fun :(

Thanks

Well that could be said by anyone about anything. I am scared of (insert Dino, bug, or whatever here) so I'm lost in the purpose of this thread? Maybe a prehistoric theme survival game isn't for you if your afraid of creatures?

For notice I am only afraid of leeches! Any other creatures I am not afraid of! And thanks for the link to disable spawns :) Appreciate it :)

You're welcome :D
Sure, anything might be someone's phobia, but I think leeches are up there with spiders and a handful of other things as being likely to be a trigger for an order of magnitude more people than the rest.

Swamps were my favorite biome... really not looking forward to obnoxious disease problems :( Frog mounts ftw, though!

this actually could be a good thing for you. The best way to deal with a phobia is to face it head on. This would be a step in dealing with your phobia. I would suggest first flying above the swamp, then looking at a leech from far away, then progressing to being able to pick one up with an argento or something, and finally killing one with a rex or some other OP dino.

Don't let your fear control you!

Oh, fyi, private server can disable leech spawns. Might also help you out. Go look up the Ark Server Manager in the guide section to get easily started. Or you can do it the hard way (manually thru steam).

Thanks for the suggestion Dex! Will see how I go :0

Fear is good because it can keep you safe. But it can also get out of control, as is the case with phobias. Try not to focus on the fear, and maybe even use this as an opportunity to face your fear in a setting where you can not be hurt so you can maybe build a little tolerance to their presence (eventually). Either way, hang in there!

Thanks for your suggestions all I am actually considering your suggestions about keeping them in the game and just using them to try and help make my phobia a little less bad than it is! Am seriously considering it! Had one real life friend say it could be a good thing to have them in the game to help with my phobia too! And have asked another friend there opinion! Appreciate your help and kind thoughts! Thanks so much!

You can't expect the game to be designed around you alone. Fortunately the game is highly configurable. I would say that I think it's silly to get worked up over a game representation of something you're afraid of IRL, and that it'd be good to face and help with your fears, but then, I don't do so well with heights and in some games heights get to me (but oddly flying a flying mount at extreme heights doesn't bother me at all).

I mean, doubt many people LIKE leeches but it's not like they're going to take over the island - it'll just be something else to survive thru.

I don't expect the game to be designed around me as said in the post above! That was NOT what I was saying at all! I am not asking for them to be removed I was considering removing them from my own game! And now I am considering leaving them there to try and help myself to make my phobia a little better. But I was not after the game to be designed around me as you can't expect that Jolly and I wouldn't expect that as its being made for what it is not for solo people alone! And I did state above (I think so that I want to remove them from my game) Doesn't mean I expect them to be fully removed cause of me alone as that is unrealistic. I am now considering weather or not to leave them in the game

Of course you don't expect ARK to be designed around you. But in these forums, get used to people coming up with stoopid ideas and crediting you with their creation. As for whether or not to have leaches, I suggest you leave them in, but at a low spawn rate.

How do you know they won't take over?!?!? And what everyone else said would be a good way to help move past your fear 😊
