Why DirectX12? Vulkan is better.
Vulkan is cross platform while DirectX12 is only for Windows 10 users. And with the new Nvidia GPUs, there will even be better performance imo.

Why didn't OpenGL ever replaced DirectX?
Platform vendors are pushing jaw-clenchingly hard to convince software developers "if you want to sell on our platform, going through our proprietary API is the way to go". CIG with Star Citizen are making the same mistake of reinforcing the false notion that D3D = Windows; Vulkan/OGL = Linux when they could easily just use Vulkan and cover everything.

that just shows how beastly 1080 is. i bet it runs just as high on dx11.

AC is still a big question mark.

Same crap with the Titan. OMG 12GB OF MEMORY!! ELITE!!! All these people with quad Titan's for big gaming setups and the 980Ti is faster. that 12GB memory isn't worth a snot.

GTX 780ti - 3GB vRAM
GTX Titan 700 series - 6GB of vRAM
GTX 980 ti - 6GB of vRAM
GTX Titan X - 12GB of vRAM

Titans are generally faster than the top tier performance gaming GPUs and are aimed at gaming at higher resolutions than their cheaper counterparts, featuring better memory bandwidth and more vRAM. Someone with more money than brains wouldn't really be able to tell the difference. Someone like yourself with not a lot of money need not concern yourself with where the Titans fit gaming wise.

I personally don't view them as worth it but I'm generally fine with 1080p 60fps gaming and am not aiming at 4k any time soon.

As for the 1080. It's faster than the 980ti, there's a possible 1080ti incoming and we know nothing about the Drivers it's running on. The AMD 390x was also a massive disappointment as launch when the numbers came through but it has been improving.

I'm not saying the new cards are going to be amazing but it's a little early to be pissing on Nvidia's parade just yet. I said the same thing when the AMD GPUs were released. The issue I had with BOTH AMD AND NVIDIA is they both promised FAR GREATER improvements than what we got.

But on topic. DX12 is noted to be slightly faster and easier to work with than Vulkan. Someone not wanting to take the time to make a cross platform game will be more likely to work with DX12 than Vulkan.

That said, ARK is cross platform and you can bet there WILL be a Vulkan API update EVENTUALLY but yeah. Don't expect it tomorrow.

amd polaris is aiming for performance/dollar.
nvdia milking them sheeps. aka the new king.
note that demo didnt show dx11. just removed the fps limit.
its suspect nvdia still dont have ace.

ARK is being built on the Unreal Engine - so the UE devs have to implement Vulkan (and not just cheap wrappers as now) first. And their DX12 work was extremely disappointing .. a Wrapper with DX11(9) implementation. I hightly doubt that they will ever get the messy engine fixed, its a real disaster in the backend.

last time a checks nearly 80% of all pc users us windows so it makes sense that dx12 will be the preferred option

OGL = Linux? I hope you don't mean OpenGL cause if you are implying that is for Linux I might burst out laughing.

They're saying the complete opposite.
Kandarihu May 18, 2016 @ 9:32am
My understanding of what CIG is planning on doing is that since they started DX12 development, they might as well finish with it, and count on the Vulkan conversion being very easy since the two APIs are very similar. I honestly and dearly hope that it will be that easy. Technically, if things still go south on the DX12/Vulkan conversions, the Linux version of Star Citizen could get cancelled. But in this same case, the Linux version of ARK cannot, since there is already an OpenGL-based version.

I guess we can count on Microsoft to do whatever they can to obfuscate the DX12 to Vulkan conversion as much as possible. DX12 is vendor lock-in incarnate. And if the game developers jump ship from that, then the possibility of Windows having serious competition in Linux becomes possible. That's great for us and bad for them.

Chris Roberts specifically believes in open platforms. It's the whole reason he doesn't want to put Star Citizen on consoles. He doesn't believe in "dumbing it down" for those platforms. But with Unified Windows Platform on the horizon, time will tell if CIG will be forced to "dumb it down" for Windows 10. And if so, what will their response be?

Actually, UE4 has Vulkan implemented for months. Here is the ProtoStar demo, and here is the docs link[wiki.unrealengine.com].

Vulkan Support on The Isle and is needed to run the game.. Proof that Vulkan API works on UE4 engine.. I bought the game and runs pretty good, much smoother then Ark Does.. Don't get me wrong. I still love ark and it has more Stuff. The Isle has better looking dinos but that's about it. There nothing to do really. But hopefully gets better in time. but it runs really smooth for me lol.

it won't happen until nvidia won't port theyr black box tech aka gameworks to Vulkan API.
Um do you know that Gameworks is not even turned on in Ark currently. And not 100% sure but Nvidia is backing Vulkan.. Vulkan is API... Gameworks is Not API.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_GameWorks

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)

and I'm pretty sure Nvidia if they wanted too. Could get to work on Vulkan..

https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13000233_231209337240966_6295250622928422862_n.jpg?oh=5190d2953d670cfd5d1044dd4deef23a&oe=57D1D626

I don't know a lot about gameworks and have heard both Good/Bad and ugly.. Vulkan is what most teams/Devs seem be switching too. Amd and Nvidia will have make it work or be left out in the cold with locked Windows and DirectX.. In business terms. Vulkan makes sense..
I think both companies are starting too see that They don't need Windows DirectX..

Somebody who has more knowledge about API and what not could prob give better info and details then I.
