Cannot connect to dedicated server on local network. [SOLVED]
I can see the server in my favorites and I can see it on the LAN tab in the steam server explorer. But if I try to connect through steam I get the "unable to query server info for invite" message. Both the client and server are 240.6. I cannot see the server via the ARK client with any option (My Survivors, Unofficial, LAN <-- whats the point, it has never worked). Ports are opened on the router (although this doesn't matter for LAN). If steam can see it, there should be no reason why the ARK client cannot see it. It seems like the ARK developers have done a very poor job or put very little time into the networking code. I've been through tons of other posts for people having similar problems but nothing is useful. Any wizards out there?

in steam, try going to your favorites tab and adding the server there using your 'local ip:port' then in Ark, check favorites..

i understand this is just a work around, but if it works great ! I have never had any issues connecting using Lan, My survivors, Unofficial etc..

not sure what may be causing your issue.

I already said I have the server in my favorites (have both local and wan addresses) and cannot see anything in Ark on the favorites.

connect through an invite through steam or join the hosts game.

Have you previously been able to connect to it, or is it a new setup?

Edit: from what I've found, if it's new, make sure these ports are open on the server's and router's (if applicable) firewall:
TCP + UDP 27015
TCP + UDP 7777

And make sure those ports are forwarded to the dedicated server in your router settings, according to the wikia article.

I am trying to connect to a computer on my local network running the ark server. There is no hosts game and no one to invite.

New setup. Those ports are open on the router and forwarded. (but that does not apply to lan games that are connected via a switch).

Ok - not sure if this link will work, but someone found a workaround for this. http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/615086038669053850/

Workaround part of the thread:

Step 2. once loaded click on Join Ark.

Then switch to drop down to UNOFFICIAL SERVERS.

Step 3. check the boxes to show servers that are not full or full and show servers with passwords.

Step 4. Refresh and look for your server (you should not see it because i dont at this step)

step 5. once confirmed you cannot see it in the list then switch the list from UNOFFICIAL to MY SURVIVORS, and BOOM there is my server!

Doesn't work. Thanks, I've looked through a ton of posts including that one and tried them.

Ok, so after several days of misery, I've figured out the problem. Nobody else seems to have come across this or talked about it anywhere that I can find so hopefully this will help someone.

Your server and client can be the same version, but if any of your mods are out of sync you will not be able to connect to the server or even see it!!!

actually that's really common... how have you not run into this before if you run mods?

New dedicated server. I've haven't seen anyone else come up with that solution and I've searched quite a bit.

This may seem straight forward and also many may have already tried, but when hosting a dedicated server make sure to use the script in the instll folder (self made) to update the server to the version of the game which is auto updated.

I just had this issue unable to see my server, it turns out the server was still running v.248 but the current version is v.249.

Hope it helps
