Extending Rafts
i was wondering why i wasnt able to extend my raft foundations with the ceiling method anymore, as i havent played in a couple months. i reached out to a friend who plays regularly and told me that the devs changed it to where that method doesnt work. im just wondering why i guess? i know im not the only person this upsets as i love using rafts in game. if you are a dev could you possibly say why ARK has "fixed" this method, and if you are a player who wishes you could still use this method of expanding tell us and why. i feel alot of people would be extatic if you brought this method back, however if there is a certain debilitating reason you "fixed it" then i understand.

You can still extend rafts up to a certain point. I don't even bother with the 'ceiling method'. What I do is place the first foundation, put a pillar in the middle of that, two ceilings, another pillar, add a foundation, and remove the pillars and ceilings. I've had a 3x7 raft with foundations (normally you only get the 8 foundations in the 3x3 of the raft itself, minus the rudder area).

If you use this method with a little patience you can also sink the foundations to be lower on the raft. Start with a foundation, pillar, 2 ceilings, pillar, and fiddle with the foundation until you can place it a notch lower than the first one. Destroy the pillars, ceilings, and the first foundation, then repeat the process from the lower foundation. Eventually you will place the foundations slightly under the raft. You can see the outlines of the floor on the outskirts.

Besides aesthetic improvements of having a lowered raft that doesn't look like a floating island, this also functions to protect the raft from the bottom, as well as reducing the need for ramps since the floor sort of clips into beaches. You can also drive the raft from anywhere it's visible instead of just the driver's seat.

You can't extend the foundations (9 max) that sit on the raft but if you go up a floor you can use ceilings to expand your base using ceilings as floors. My first floor is usualy two stories above the foundations and are 3 x 4 in size. You can go larger but I keep it down in size.

I too love the rafts. All my bases are rafts so I can explore. I leave the front of the raft clear of foundations so I have a great view as I sail along. :)
Just a sample.

Thank you di eshor ribly for the information. As well as old codger, I know of just adding floors but I don't find it too aesthetically pleasing. I still feel as I'm not the only one upset of this change, but I do thank you for the information and suggestions.

That's my 3x7 raft base. It's pretty basic. Inside is a bed, preserving bin, mortar, smithy, forge, fireplace, campfire, and 5 storage boxes. If you look close you can see part of the actual raft sticking through the floor. Sorry for being zoomed out, I wanted the whole picture. Oh, and the only ceilings on this raft are on top of the hut or under plant species x. The entire floor is foundations.

Here is a little respawn hut, and my taming cage raft. The hut just has a bed, fireplace, chairs, and a few boxes, so I can port over to a buddy's base to give him a hand when needed. The taming cage is 3x6, with a 3x4 taming area and a 3x2 saferoom to shoot your new buddy from.

All of them have been sunk to some extent.

There's an inside shot of the hut to show you how the sunken floor looks.

Yeah, you guys have definitely worked around the "fix". However I'm still upset I just wish that you could make extraordinary boats again. Especially after being away for a while, I was really looking forward to building a great looking and effective boat. I'm still kinda hoping the community groups together and maybe the devs allow this method to be used again. I know ark developers are amazing at listening to their community.

are you sure this is still possible? I am currently trying to place foundations like you said but the ones over the water will not snap to the pillars.

You place 1 foundation then pillar in the middle, then 3 ceilings then another pillar, then foundation. Is that correct or am I missing a step?
