Metal railings as a wall
Hi folks

Thinking of using stacked metal railings for a wall for our base. Does wild dinos "see" through them or are they safe to use?

I'm pretty sure dinos can see through them. Although I'm not completely positive. Haven't built a wall out of railings for a few months

I have one side of my base walled by stone railings currently. Last night had a carno trying to attack a couple of my dinos from the outside. My vote goes to yes they can.

Ah ok, well the other downside is the loading times every time you enter your base. I found another thread where one poster stated this:

We made a behemoth height perimeter fence out of metal railings. It works nicely. I was worried dinos would argo through it but they don't, they treat it as a normal fence. You can stand infront of them on the other side of the fence and they don't see you.

The lag is actually less then when we had the walls made from behemoth gates.

The price is really close to what it would cost to make it from the metal wall pieces (i think its only 1 or 2 ignots different per wall/2 railing section) but it looks a million times better then a metal wall and you can see through it which is the biggest benefit in my opinion.

ETA: The health is the same as a wall section. 10k hp per railing. You need 2 railings to cover 1 regular wall section and need to use a fence foundation to lay them on.

Yes, I've also noticed a slight fps drop in the base area. I think once you have a good bit of items in the area, railing isn't helping the situation. Also another yes, the cost of railing is more since you have to build 2 to cover the same area. However the walls also need the fence foundation.

I'll be updating mine to metal walls as soon as I can finish dozens of other projects I've started.

So I am thinking now, as we want to move base near the sea, if we should start by using those stone behemoth gates, I see many people use them. I am also taking into account that we are building our base near a good carno spawn point (thinking alphas etc) and if those fence foundations will have an effect on the spawns.

I can't attest to the spawns. I can attest, that behemoth gates are a better value, although at a high cost. Personally I don't mind the look of the gates, and would use them myself; however my base is in a location where I'm unable to fit behemoth gates so walls will have to do.
