Manta Taming on Official Servers

Before we get started, this post is for people who play on Official Servers only with no multipliers who have tried to tame a high level Manta. I say this in hopes of avoiding the usual, “Works for me, blah blah blah, all you need to do is this… blah blah blah.” types of responses from people most likely playing on 5x or higher unofficial servers or from people who tamed a level 4.

That being said, I am not sure Manta Taming above level 20 or so is possible on Official servers the way they currently are in the game (Or the way I am doing it.) I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue.

My Setup: Raft with under-raft building/cage with a dinosaur gate. Basically very simple to lead the manta into the gate and cage, and then escape through a stone doorway on opposite end and then swim around and close the gate. Then pop a few stone walls and a ceiling around the manta inside and you got him trapped in a 1x1x2 high enclosure. Spray myself with bug repellant and feed the manta angler gel.

The issue seems to be that the manta does not get fed by the angler gel and its food bar slowly decreases over time. For a low level manta, you can probably tame it up before the food bar gets below 50%. For a higher level manta, what seems to be happening to me is that once the food bar gets to 50%, the taming bar resets (Drops to Zero), and once the taming bar is back at zero, the food resets back to 100%.

And you start all over or if you are me, just kill it out of frustration!

Note: Most of the time, the Manta is not peeved off. Occasionally it will get angry and attack a wall or something for a short time, but then stops. This might have something to do it with it. I don’t know. Either way, I don’t understand why the taming bar would reset at 50% food.’

Honestly I think this is something that needs to be fixed, but maybe the dev’s didn’t want it to be tamed in a box like this and its some mechanic to make it impossible.

Same crappy coding as was used for taming dolphins (which after many many patches finally got fixed).
Guess the same developer worked on this dino's taming code.

maximum i seem to be able to tame on official is 32; maybe 36 please fix this,

the lack of noise about this shows how many ppl play official :/

I play on official and managed a level 72 (tamed out at 81) had it trapped perfectly against the beach using three stone dino gates never aggroed me in that waist deep water... that said I went through probably 4 mantas to get that one and three dino gates should not be a neccessity for what is for the most part a novilty tame

HOW? i tried like 25 mantas over the last 2 weeks all between 120 and 8 and the only ones i could get was the ones below 40, the one lv 40 i had got to round 98% and then started the drop i use a setup simmilar to yours where you trap them in more shallow water

there is also not battlemusic or anything they just start to drop the taming bar as soon as they reach 50% food

Ps after first angler takes like 1 min and something beffore that is in 20 sec.

It is interesting to me that this has gotten very little notice on the forums. I think some of it is due to the fact that people post videos (like the one above) of it working, but then forget to tell you that there is a taming multiplier involved.

Example: That video above is from Mazion who players with Slpg8tr and all the folks at the pooping evolved server with a very increased taming multipler. In fact this is quite typical of youtube streamers since they are entertainers essentially. There is not a video out there of a manta tame above level 75 on an official server with no multipliers.

We tamed a 116. Trap it, wear all ghillie but the chest piece is a scuba tank. Take bug repellant and something to jump on while underwater (ie ichy) so you can stay under while reapplying repellant or eating. DO NOT LET THE MANTA TOUCH ANY KIND OF BEACH/LAND. I hope they fix it soon.

Your tactic will work, with two minor alterations. Put a bed or two on your raft, and every 5 minutes or so, let it kill you. It'll eat your body, refilling its food gauge. You can also probably drop in a dodo or something small for the same effect, but I know for certain that letting it kill and eat you will work, got a 116 at 1x tame, no modifiers.

so you have to feed it thats what i was saying also the cage on the plesios back over the duration of an hour ... is a PAIN 80+ manta breaks my mastercraft scuba stuff in 3 hits ...
beachtaming was much easier, guess official loses again.

hey guys, i play official and have tamed 2 mantas now above 70. The first manta was kited to the Carno Island underwater cave using a plesio, once it was close i pulled aggro and the manta into the cave. It sat at the top of the caves water and i tamed it with no issues at all. My 2nd experience was much more difficult. I lured a lvl 80 manta into my sea pen and trapped it in a corner with metal pillars, I then sat behind the manta with a buddy in front, we took turns feeding and distracting the manta, it dropped its taming bar only once in the begining before we had him locked in. (we both lost most of our scruba in the process)

it shouldnt be such a big hassle in the first place to tame a silly manta.
all it has is a little bit of extra base speed compared to the ichty, and the ichty is 10 times more enjoyable to tame (no matter what level)

manta's atm are simply not worth the trouble on official servers.

I appreciate the feedback. So I have done a little testing on this issue, and it seems like it is possible to tame a higher level manta on an official server providing you sacrifice someone to feed it occasionally. This is the only way it seems to be working on our server. Otherwise, you get the 50% food bug and tame reset.

If someone has done it without someone dying and feeding it a players body, you are experiencing something I can't reproduce at least on my official server. I have tried a raft trap, plesi and beach trap. All experience the same issue.

I will attempt a higher level Manta tame this weekend probably after the patch and come back and let you know how it goes (For those interested!). Just need to find a guinea pig that will sacrifice himself to the Manta God every few minutes.

Same exp for me (also official Server) - the food drops and does not get refilled enough for high lvl ones. I am okay with the tame being tricky in term of using a boat or other. But it's just broken if u need to let it kill someone. And i can not understand how ppl do not take issue in that.

ppl most likely think they are doing something wrong themselves.
as OP said there is very little feedback on taming on official servers.
the only thing you see is x10 taming clips and the first 3 feeding cycles of the tame, they cut the middle parts out.

i didnt realize manta was so bugged untill ive read this post either, i just tought i had bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck it resetted every time, tought it was because it aggo'd on me or whatever.
