Manta's need a change, and here's why.
I was super pumped for the mantas today, and I found out, they're passive aggressive tames, which is the worst thing. It wouldn't be that bad, if they just floated there when feeding it, but they move too much, and are REALLY fast. I used the bug repellent, didn't work because it swam into me, which is why it can't be so fast and moving around all over the place. Tried Ghillie and bug repellent, swam into me again, still didn't work. How are you supposed to tame this? Be a manta? I got relativley close to taming a 20, then about half way- almost done, it's hunger dropped, and it dropped fast, (taming meter sorry) it actually dropped so fast, that it dropped to zero..... wh....wha....wHYYYYYY?

Next, they're REALLY fast, scuba flippers really don't help at all, they help, but your better off just not even bothering with them, because they still swim faster than you. Not to mention, they deal A LOT of damage, more than one would think, sure, getting stung by a ray like this is oughtta hurt, but not destroy all my flak armor in 3-4 hits. They also take a LOT of angler gel, which is relatively annoying.

tl;dr
Extremely annoying tames, wait until they are patched.

Please, dev's PLEASE stop basing tame difficulty on release order, even for just getting it out there into the game!

I'm fine with them eating Angler Gel because I feel like it has a purpose now besides just cooler torches, however I can't help but disagree with their choice to make Bug Repellent necessary. I mean, Bug Repellent for a sea creature?? It just seems asinine to me. I haven't tried taming a Manta yet so I can't say much about it being passive tame, however the fact that it's a passive tame yet an aggressive creature doesn't make much sense to me. I'd say they took the taming mechanics of a cave creature like the Araneo or Onyc and just copy pasta'd it onto the Manta. Still can't get over my annoyance that you need Bug Repellent under water for a creature that isn't even close to a bug.

I tried and failed, lvl 108 aggro'd my mosa and died. Found some in the shallows, 2 beached. The last lvl 60 was going well till it swam into me and aggro'd and lost it's entire taming bar. Then started swimming all over and beached itself. Never had this much difficulty taming anything ever.

Pff , here is what you what you do to get our manta :

Build a trap on the coast but still in the water . then start agro the manta and get it to follow you , when it in block the path ( preferly from all side except the front , back away , use the repellant and replace any wall that the manta is attacking .

After that it is only the waiting game .

same system as ape tames except underwater. build a small under-raft pen. when its led in, build around it until its trapped in as small a space as possible both in ceilings and walls. make one of said walls a window and feed it thru that.

even after taming manta's are still broke, they take such heavy damage if you hit land, or even insta die, and in alot of cases you don't have to be on literal land for it to be killed. ;)

mindwipe and up your oxygen makes you swim faster, add flippers and they can't touch you

I can't get the taming bar past 80% then starts dropping fast
Lol passive aggressive tames xD. After you tame it you start getting angry letters in your door and it eats some of your food without asking

so i just tamed a manta, using the taming pen strategy, it works well, so it's basically the only way to do it.
