Doeds are not for gathering obsidian, or metal, or crystal. They are for gathering stone, get an ankylo if you want obsidian.

They don't collect obsidian.

according to the wiki they do gather and they are better than anky. Usually i used anky but after reading the wiki i switched to doed but surprise.

They definetely collect obsidian, actually the harvest almost double the anklo.......

So if its not harvesting obsidian there is a promblem.

It's been quite a while since I last took a doed around to the volcano, but from my limited experience they either get obsidian and a lot of it, or they get just stone. Both happened at random for me.

that is what i was saying.

http://ark.gamepedia.com/Obsidian

Read here on the wiki:

"Please note that the Doedicurus is not able to gather obsidian from all of the typically black glossy rocks. For instance, it can gather obsidian from the rocks in the caldera of the volcano on The Island map, but not from the rocks on the last part of the way up to the caldera. On The Center map it can't gather from the rocks on the shores of the lake under the floating island or in the mouth of Skull Island."

Make sure if you are using Doeds for this, that you are mining the correct rocks with them.

This is why everyone suggests you use Ankylo instead, they have no such restrictions and can mine all Obsidian nodes everywhere, and thus are "Better" at it for this reason, not the harvest rate.

so only inside the volcano. That's a stupid way of doing it.

Wondering if this is to stop the Quetz exploits?

by quetz exploit you mean being carried?

I made a post about this not long ago actually but thought it was just our server as it was fixed after a server restart (it wasn't gathering obsidian at all, not even in the locations where it should be able to)... But today, started doing the same thing where it wouldn't gather any at all, and a restart did not help.

Like I said in the above post... just use an Ankylo, they always mine all the obsidian everywhere all the time.

Well we have been using the Anky... But we shoudlnt' have to use an anky, especially when you need/want to gather huge amounts of obsidian in an obsidian heavy area. The doed is a naturally better option in this regard for people that don't play with outlandish changes to the game (nothign wrong with people who play with 1800%+ damage dinos or 20x gather rates, or any other changes, but not everyone does). So it is kind of an issue.

1800+ % damage dinos were the norm, and actually, part of the game and how it actually originally worked for the first.. 16 months of release actually. The devs made a change and "nerfed" the dinos down to -60% less damage overall.

But anyway it's not "Cheating" and "Outlandish settings" that's what we had, normally, in the vanilla game, and everything was finy and hunky dory before.
Ace Ackbar Aug 21, 2016 @ 1:03am
*were* the norm... not so much anymore. It takes a lot of effort to get a decent dino up to even 600% damage - though it can get up much higher, it's just not easy. I know how it all works now compared to before, but that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

And I never said it was cheating, and "outlandish" is just an adjective I'm using based on personal opinion - as I said, theer's nothign wrong with it, just that not everyone does play with those settings, which have a huge effect on things like using a doed compared to an anky in certain situations. Playing on a server with increased gather rates can often make it more viable to use an anky for obsidian, but playing on a server with "official" rates, you want to use whatever you can to make the most of it.
