Well Ive looked at the pictures.

1 pillar means u can build 2 ceilings in every direction from it.
the second ceiling needs pillars underneath them to build again 2 more ceilings from it. so u attach a new ceiling to the existing one and then u build pillars underneath it to the surface.

The problem is u probably need 1 more pillar, it probably doesnt hit the ground even if it looks like it. When u place pillars sometimes u gotta place another pillar underneath the allrdy placed pillar (this is most likely the problem). U can notice this that when u place the pillar it would taken up half of the allrdy placed pillar and will just snap to the ground for like 0.1cm.

I was talking about this picture, so all u need to do is place another pillar underneath the ceiling u allrdy have pillars under (just to get it fully snapped to the ground) hope im clear for you

also that 1 ceiling on the top right which u can place, is probably because u have placed pillars left of it which cant been seen on the screenshot

It will solve the problem.

i am actualy trying to create a indoor harbour port for a mosar so i can swim him in there if i build any pillars in the way it may mess that up or stopp him getting in but i will try.

I have a better idea : build a platform of ceilings and pillars at the bottom with 1 pillar rising that just surfaces then u can build all the way as far and as wide as u can/want without blocking the mosa

I agree with him, but I'm not sure you understand.

make sure the pillar thats shown in the picture, actually hits the ground soundly. see if you can snap another pillar unit to the bottom of the pillar that is shown. you can hang a pillar off of a ceiling, but it only counts as a support if it is then extended to the ground plane.

foundations will snap to pillars. You can use this to place foundations on the ground underwater, this will make it possible to place the ceilings without having pillars in the way.

I did it i had 2 place left that needed pillars but i turned them into this type of window http://www.roofventilationblog.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/22761693.jpg useing loped corner sloped roof and a window. Now its kinda finished not there just yet may post pic on here when done.
