Server not working, assuming the ports won't forward correctly
I recently attempted to host a small server for myself and a few other people to play on. I followed video instructions step by step, and the server started up without a hitch. The problem I found was that I could connect by the LAN tab, but when my friend tried to find the server, he couldn't. I tried to invite him on steam, no dice there either. I even tried the steam server finder where I manually added it to my favorites and connected like that, but it said the server wasn't responding. So I did a quick check, and I found that the ports 27015, 27016, and 7777 weren't open, however I did port forward them. I'm unsure of how to fix this, I've tried disabling my firewall completely and still nothing works. I'm using an Ubee modem if that's any help. Thank you in advance.

Where did you forward them and HOW? You need to forward the UDP ports

I forwarded them on my router website? Like the thing where you type the ipv4. I forwarded both to UDP, and I tried using both TCP/UDP. I forwarded them start and end ports 7777, 27015, and 27016, forwarded to both TCP/UDP, and then I tried just UDP. Nothing happened, I checked them multiple times and still they weren't open. I used a port checker, just on some website.

You are running the server on your windows client correct?

Do you have just the one cable modem / router or both the modem and a seperate router?

Does your router ask for an internal IP? Make sure its correct.

Some routers also need to be restarted for new port forwards to take affect.

I think it asked for an internal IP, it had a place where the ipv4 started, but I could only edit the last number. I didn't try restarting my modem though, maybe I could try that

just looked at my router forwarding - I have 1 rule with a range of 2015-2016 set for udp and a rule with 7777 for port range start/end udp.

If a reboot does not fix it see if there is a firmware update for the Ubee modem

The last number you can edit needs to be the internal IP address for the computer the server is on, otherwise the port will technically be open but the router won't know where to direct the traffic.

Okay I set the last number to the host, and I restarted my modem, but still no dice, the ports are closed.

The only option I have is 192.168.0.(insert number here). That's the only ip that I can use

and what IP are you putting there?

Have not seen anyone ask this yet so, did you also open the port on your Windows Firewall? Most people disable the windows firewall if they have a hardware (router) firewall so it is not an issue. But if your Windows Firewall is still active, it will block those ports even after you open them on your router.

Also, you do not need both 27015 and 27016 open on the firewall. You only need to open up 27016 if you are running two servers simultaneously on the same box and need access to each server individually. Also, according to the wiki you do need both UDP and TCP open. I know a lot of people say you only need UDP, but for some that have had issues getting their server to be seen, opening both has helped.

all right. can you post a screenshot of your cmd.exe after you typed ipconfig ? it should look like this: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6c/Ipconfig_win_xp.png

can you after you posted this screenshot please tell us which ip you have entered in your router?
