they are mate boosted, and get fighting boost from it (in love basically) a male and female are close enough for it to activate.

with tamed dinos the hearts will be flashing hearts when they are on wander which is called breeding, creating a fertilized egg for breeding a new baby dino

Also tamed dinos in mate boost will produce eggs for kibble faster than normal
