With 16k+ of unofficial servers all looking for new players, you will find it hard to get player who want to join your long running game. Most want to join 'fresh' servers where all players on on the same starting page and only connect to servers running 24/7 and mostly only those hosted on 24/7 supported server farms.
But if you do want to get more players, I recommend posted more about your game/server (settings etc)
Over almost a thousand hours now, i have discovered that large construction projects are simply annoying (running so much for trees only) just to construct and therefore recently mostly because of getting stuck cheat coded my materials for the base, which allows me to experiment more.
I tend to try and enjoy what i created by using a true life 24hr game cycle, in which by day i do all the away from home stuff, and at nighttime hang around the base, admiring the creatures and buildings, refilling troughs, collecting eggs, and general housework.
I added this little balcony to the side of a building, and it just makes that tiny bit of difference, love making these changes to my design...

A little cheating also allows you to freely alter entire buildings to another material (from wooden to stone) easily and you can mix things up, here i blended the sides and rear of the warehouses to match the front stone dinosaur gateways and i thought it went quite well

Other times i take mental notes about how i run around the place, and come up with problem areas that end up creating new construction project in order to provide fluid access across all the different areas, this made me do this whole sorta bridge area

and i had no quick access route to the rear of my base, so it lead to me altering things again...

backup your game first, because large changes really are bad news if they look worse !!
Breeding is something new for me too, and again on a twelve hour night cycle its something to keep running back and forth to check on whilst doing the chores. The thing is with survival games (all of them) they are a bit more about virtual living than gaming in the end.
The best thing to do is learn to admire what you have made and achieved as much as possible, share some screenshots mate, im always keen to view peoples base designs and such...
Thanks to a large dock and lamp-posts the water around me is lit up at night, makes for some great midnight swimming lessons (goes red) yes i go swimming for no reason, in ark SP

Im building a city now, most for fun, and i would love to share but my screen shoot dosent work :( . I love to give my little city life with dinos at the houses. 1 thing that helped me was to get some mods/tweeks that i like, for ex. higher gathering rates, my dions carry more. No collision mods, about 7-9 more mods.
Look in the mods and figure out what you want and need. By the way dont forget to paint your base and your dinos, it's fun :p
Citranol sounds like it might lift your spirits
