Tree Platform Raiding
so what are the numbers on destroying one of these? How many rockets for wood and how many for metal? and will it show up in the log like a raft?

I don't think you can destroy redwoods.

60000/2560=23.4x

So basically looks like it would take 24 rockets to demo.

Im not sure how defensible that is. That doesnt seem to be a good buffer. considering redwoods cant be torn down, even with species x or miniturrets i imagine people could just hide behind the trees and come out and shoot and then poop behind the tree again while reloading to avoid the guns.

In this instance, the turrets would be to destroy the inbound rockets.
What im interested in knowing though is, if you have foundations/pillars, and the platform is destroyed, do those foundations/pillars survive.

So things have changed regarding this. Even though it's a necro I want to weigh in on this. However I will only be considering PC version (I don't know about the other stuff, if you do adjust accordingly).

The metal tree platform now has 100k durability. Explosives have had adjustments here and there as well. And RPG will do 2205 damage to metal. C4 will do 3544 damage. The max height (it varies tree to tree) between a metal tree platform as a floor piece, and one as a ceiling piece (every redwood has 2 snap points for this) is 16. most of the time it's 13 or 14. Lets say you have 14 high metal window frames with a regular auto turret in each window. Three columns of this will actually have line of sight from any single angle of approach. That's 48 turrets each with effectively 13k durability (the window frame and the turret itself).

Raiders of course would not want to waste rockets that will just get shot down. They'll tank it from one side and drain the turrets then blow a hole where it seems most convenient. Now really they only need to punch a hole near the base of the platform in one of the window frames. That's all they need for an entry. Maybe they blow a few more holes inside.

If you crunch the numbers it would take 46 rockets or 29 C4 (have round up to the nearest whole number as there would be a small amount of durability left) to blow that platform vs. 6 rockets or 4 C4 to punch a hole in the wall. Even if you quadruple that number to make the opening a bit bigger or for inside demo work to get to things. It still takes twice as much to blow the actual platform.

But let's say they are richer than god alpha guild and don't give a damn how much they spend on it. Here's what they will care about (as most anyone would). If they blow the platform the goodies don't fall to the ground like pinata candy...This is ARK. The bags will hover in the air at the level they were blown as if physics are not a thing. Making it very frustrating to collect loot even with flyers and tall mounts.

The platform itself (while it may take some minor damage) likely won't be blown. Most of the walls and such will probably be left intact. In the end a tree platform base isn't much different from a ground base. And a raided one will look much the same. The fact is that anything which takes 50k and up to blow generally isn't worth the loot one gets from it. This is why many vaults remain locked and intact after a base has been other wise wiped. No one wants to roll the dice and blow a vault to be potentially rewarded with 10k thatch.

The benefit of it is that it does gate exactly who can raid it. It won't be a no tame bob who got lucky with a loot drop. It won't be a beta guild with a single bronto and a few pteras and anky and an argy. It might be someone with more then 1 quetz. Whose willing to armor it and even loose it to get at your stuff.

But most likely it will be either a really dedicated troll or an alpha tribe. And those people aren't stupid or reckless (generally speaking). They're likely not going to spend more than they think it's actually worth. Even if they decide that they are wiping you. They probably won't blow the platform itself. Because it's simply not worth it most of the time.

That doesn't make you safe. Nothing is 100% secure. You can only make it not worth it for the effort. If you use a lot greenhouse walls so they can see inside from a ways off and you make it clear somehow with the view you give them into it that it isn't likely worth it. That may act as a disincentive to raid.
