Private Server - Spino & Trexes keep wrecking base - tips?
Hi all,

New player here. Playing private game with 2 others, about lvl 19, loads of fun. However, we are running into a bit of a problem. Started game in West Zone 1, made a camp by the inlet.

Twice now, a large predator (first a T-Rex, second a Spinosaurus) seems to have spawned right next to it (after we died and spawned back it seems) and then proceed to kill all our dino's and wreck the place.

T-Rex we handled and then spend the last 6 hours rebuilding, building walls (we are not very high lvl so more makeshift foundation+wall), armories etc. Then suddenly a rather massive spino spawns and again kills all our dino's and litterally tears our settlement to pieces (no building is left).

So now there are two naked guys looking dejectedly at what is left of their camp while a massive dino litterally takes a dump in the rubble.

So was wondering, is there any server setting or tips on how to prevent these massive death beasts from randomly spawning in a relativly passive zone (really the most dangerous thing here are the dilio's) and laying waste to everything?

Also our dino's don't seem to attack anything (set them on neutral), but perhaps it's because it 1-shot them :)

Any tips would be welcome

P.S. Since we cannot kill the fecker thinking of just force taming the a-hole to act as a guard for when another bigger baddie comes knocking. Hate doing this but hate having dino's wreck hours of work with nothing we can do to stop it more.

Otherwise, awesome game!

Build a wall out of stone.

The only issue at the moment with walls is we have no gates to let dino's in. Guess we will just have to accept that as a trade off until we level up some more.

Do all walls require foundations first?
Nazara Jun 26, 2016 @ 11:57pm
wood or stone fence foundations are good, not worth wastting materials on making actuall foundations

Would they be able to stop a spinosaurus?

Also is there a safer place to start? We started in West Zone 1 / South Zone 3 (that little island there) but now had a few large predators spawn that we cannot realistically fight at the moment, just wondering if there is a safer place to relocate too for now until we can reliably fend them off.

Thanks for all the tips btw, much appreciated

If you are on the Island map, your best bet would be to spawn as far south as you can to lower your chances of running into anything big and terrible aside from the wondering sabertooth.build a small camp and storage boxes. gather materials in preperation for a move and more settled location

I think we settled on Footpaw Islance, overall it is typically save and we read stay close to beaches which we did as it was safest, however the fact that our base has been leveled twice (in about 15 hours of gameplay) now makes me think this is not the case.

Don't mind danger but would at least like our early base to be relativly safe since we cannot reliably at this point defend against those big beasts and it is getting really old having all our dino's slaughtered.

I read either West 2 or 3 (west 2 seems to be on an isolated island) or South 2 are decent but the threads I read was just around time Spino came out. Seems Carno & Spino's are our base killers atm :D

The shore of island at far south west(I think south 2 spawn) is by far the safest location I have ever experienced. Never seen anything more dangerous than maybe a Carno spawn anywhere near it. But beware of the river going inland from it, as Spinos do spawn there.

Anyway, on that island, climb to the mountain top there. There's a completely flat area on it with decent enough space for several starter dinosaurs... now that said, the best defense against just normal Rex and Spino would be building a outer wall out of stone, but I guess you don't have that unlocked yet.. so yea, it'll be a good location if you're having trouble with large carnivores.

Just to clarify, anywhere inland have chance of Rex. Anywhere near a river have chance of Spino. As for Carno or Raptor/Scorpion/Sabre, if you have two or so Trikes tamed, you'll be able to fight back fairly easily.

@KP

Thanks for the tips!

We were in the process of building walls but only have wood for now and the spino just wrecked it. Not sure if we have stone walls yet.

We had 1 trike, 1 raptor, 2 dilo's and one of those starter herbivores with the inverse horn on it's head and they didn't do anything (I have never seen dino's attack unless following). What setting do we need them on to attack something that comes close to them?

Still think we will relocate as our current position (that small inlet lake at Footpaw to the east of the small island) has very limited space on the beach and again, 2 dino's spawned (about 5 hours apart) right outside our base.

So guess we relocate to West Zone 2 (the island), stay away from the river on the island and just build a first base there until we can build stone walls then build a fortified position inland I guess.

I also read South 2 is a decent spot as well?

craft a Raft and go to Herbie Island in the south. No Predators only Herbivores spawn there. There are plenty of trees, Rocks and Metal-rocks, so you can Levelup fast. If you think you are strong enough get back where you started :)

Good luck Survivors

Oh yes, I forgot about the Herbivore island. Raft's level limit is low enough.. but it requires lots of hide to make, so unless they're ready for those hide, they would still need a place to settle down. Plus, you learn more in inland than on herbivore island xD

Also, sorry, I meant West 2 on my post before that. But south respawns are probably not too bad as long as you stick to shore and stay as far away from the swamp areas. Sadly, there's also no high ground for you to avoid predators to, and there's river right infront of it so I assume it would have at least Sarco nearby.
So yes, I think the top of the hill on the west 2 spawn island would be best for you if you want to avoid large predators. Also, tame a Pteranodon if you have a chance!(Use Bola and Slingshot) It'll make your progress much faster.
Flip Jun 27, 2016 @ 1:52am
Thats the flying right? Problem is as soon as we hit one once they just fly off. I think I am 1 level off getting tranq arrows so maybe that will help.

If on West 2 Island, how do we get dino's we tame too / from there or is that not possible?

As a general rule don't mind running into dangerous dino's, its just rather disheartening to have your base (and more importantly dinos) levels every few hours by a wandering monster, at least before we can effectivly do anything about it (although I guess this is part & parcel of the game).

Think we will move to West 2 until we get back on our feet and when we can make a fortified position we can start moving inland.

Thank you all for your help, really appreciate it!

Yes, the Pteranodon is the flying thing.
Use a Bola against a Ptera that's landed, then it'll effectively leave it grounded for you to shoot with Slingshots(make sure to hit head for maximum effectiveness). If it takes off, then it's too bad, but usually you should be able to do it just fine against lower level Pteras

Don't build on the beach or right next to the water, build on the cliffs and the spino should leave you alone as wont come close

Yeah, I think the issue is that when we started we read some old guides (2015) that said beach was safe. I think these were just before our friend spino was added.

On the plus side I was inside my thatch hut/armory when it appears and seeing a massive hand rip the roof of was kinda cool!

Not so cool was that it made me get stuck to the floor....;)
