Fur armor is a joke
It weights more that pile of metal. It's insanely expensive and it doesn't warm you almost any better than flak armor, which in description says it doesn't protect you from elements very much.

When I put flak armor and go north, I am freezing most of time, but at least it weights about 2.5 (0.5 per piece), on other hand, when I take fur armor and go north, I am freezing most of time, and sometimes, I am just cold. And it weights 40+ and gives 300 less armor than flak, which is less expensive, lighter and protects you from elements nearly the same.

What the hell?

I'm kind of a noob, but is there a warming armor tier above fur? If not, absolutely, fur armor should at maximum make you "cold" in the coldest of places. Otherwise, what's the point?

I agree that fur armor needs to protect better in the cold biome, but disagree that flak is almost as good. Full flak is like 60 cold protection, while full fur is almost 250. It's not even close.

The problem is that you still freeze in the snow biome with full fur. So what's the point of engram quality fur armor? I understand needing mastercraft level fur for challenging content like the snow cave, but engram quality fur should be enough for the basic snow biome.

really you need the higher quality versions of it get a decent drop rate from the deep sea loot crates if you can get to them
Kovak Jun 8, 2016 @ 11:47am
you will need a full set of fur to withstand the cold and sometimes even a torch when blizzards hit, i got by the weight issue after i found mastercraft hood and gloves, they give more insulation than the full set of primitive and weigh only 12, flak gives barely any insulation to the cold, its not supposed to be easy to survive in the north, it keeps most people out and thats why i live there

Fortitude helps as well
JasonCGuitar Jun 8, 2016 @ 11:58am
you need to pump fortitude as well as have on Fur. In addition higher tiers offer more Hypothermic insulation, Primitive is barely better then Flak, Go farm some drops and some caves bruh.....

I agree it is far too heavy. But I disagree and feel it's far better then flak armour in the cold, 400% better.

Also if note is fortitude, pump it for thermal improvements. Cold changes, in the north sometimes it gets so cold even good fort and fur armour are not enough - fact of life. But with decent fort and fur you should be ok up there most of the time. Sometimes you also need to fire up a torch or sit beside fires, we all do.

That's what makes the game interesting, you need situational awareness and that's realistic, engaging and fun for most peoples.

OK man, you go find you some of the warmest looking thermal underwear you can find, put on warm clothing over that then put on the nicest thickest coat you can find then go to the arctic and tell us if you are still freezing. Go ahead, we'll wait.

The issue is not if you are cold or not but is it keeping you from dying of cold. The cold and freezing icon really do not mean much until your health starts to drop. If you are losing health when you wear the fur armor in the cold, then come here an complain. Otherwise, just bring you a few extra stacks of food and enjoy the cold.

Yes that's exactly what happens. I am dying in fur armor when I go to snow biome. No caves, just near the snow is enough to start dying.
Boo Jun 8, 2016 @ 12:59pm
Anyway I get it that you are just supposed to die in snow biome, but what I still don't understand is why the heck is fur so much more heavy than metal flakes? And if fur armor isn't enough to keep you from dying in winter, why there isn't some higher lvl armor that does that?

Btw the same goes for riot armor. It looks like made of polymer, but is actually heavier than metal armor. It makes no sense. Ingredients to make flak armor are incredibly heavy, the resulting product is light. The ingredients to make riot armors are light and result is heavy? Why is that?
Hypocrypha Jun 8, 2016 @ 1:03pm
are you even putting any points in your Fortitude? even with Fur gear you stil need Fortitude. the armor types don't protect you from the elements 100%.
SpwN3 Jun 8, 2016 @ 1:05pm
I always go naked oil grinding in the snow biome (official server). A shiitload of berries will keep me alive long enough to grind a great amount of oil. 10 fortitude.

xD

If you look at the stats it is better than flak but I think the coading might be off.... I will also add thatthat I have a set of Mc flak that is better in all stats than the apprentice fur set I have
