when firing at anything but a giga you have to wait 5 seconds between shots. tranq Darts and Tranq arrows are time release. If you just shoot non stop you arent giving enough time for the toport to build up.

That and use a better rifle. The more damage it can do, the more torpor effect it will have.

I thought tere was a intasnt effect then more over time?? I'll try t again wit time betwee shots

It's like when you forcefeed it tranqs while asleep, the torpor isn't instantly full ... it takes a while to build up. Same principal with the darts.

You can spam darts (except on low health targets, like kairuku & ovis), I always do and haven't ever had trouble.

There are certain higher tier animals (like argents) where if you shoot them too quickly, they will get super low on health and die most of the time.

When I go by "wait a few seconds in between shots" I usually have more success with the tame. If for nothing esle, the more health it has when it drops, the more likely you'll have a second chance for example if it gets hurt from something and you need to let it wake up to try again.

There are some where you have to pump it, I think the dimetrodon is one.

In any case, I think OP's best bet is to use a better rifle.

I've never had a problem with argies dying or being close to dead by pumping them with tranq darts. Regardless, you don't need to wait for the torpor with tranq darts like you do with tranq arrows.

Also, he was shooting a rex, which even a primitive rifle will take down in less than 146 darts. His most likely problem was that he was missing, or waiting waaaayy too long between shots (torpor going back down). Assuming OP's server doesn't have the damage numbers disabled, they're a great way to confirm if you hit or not. As far as I've been able to tell, the numbers show up no matter the distance to your target.

rapid fire om gigas. wait a few seconds on everything else. how long depends on how quickly torpor drops on the dino. this varies on the dino.

a safe bet would be 5 to 7 seconds and see how it goes.

use the wiki to see jow many darts you need roughly to drop it. will be less if you have a higher quality longneck.

Do you have any higher end crossbow blueprints?
DeadJukez | TTV Jun 3, 2016 @ 9:12pm
The 5 second thing hardly applies to longnecks. It takes 4 seconds for a longneck to reload, and probably another half second for the dart to hit the target

What kind of server are you on?

If Singleplayer, what is the Rex's level?

I believe we found some nice rifle blueprints in red cave drops, one of our guys specifically went to the Dead Island cave because of its consistant good loot. And once you reach level 80, the red drops in the ocean can give you some really nice gear and blueprints.

Doesn't the reload time space the shots out enough? According to the wiki the tranq dart delivers an initial burst of torpor then some more over the next 5 seconds. Reload time on the longneck rifle is 5 seconds.
