Why did they add invincible Alpha Raptors into the game?
Basically title. I came across an Alpha Raptor, level 76, and after putting 50 Tranq arrows in its face I decided to just try and kill it, well it's broken through 6 of my stake walls and killed a bunch of my tames and shows no signs of slowing down, so I just quit the game because it's clearly invincible. Why would they add something like this, it's basically just a big middle finger.

My stakes walls can kill raptors with 1K hp and only take like 100 out of their 3500 hp in damage, so this thing must have taken at least 100k+ damage so far which is honestly just stupid. Why play the game if an invincible raptor is just going to come over and destroy everything?

Well, as you've probably noticed now, alphas of any type can't be tamed, except by using Admin cheats.

However, I've never had any alpha break through my metal base defenses, which include both Species X plants and metal spikes outside of the outer, metal walls. It's just free loot and meat at that point.

Alphas also generally build up over time, because of the "survival of the fittest" effect. I used to take about 5 high level Tek Rexes around the outside of the perimeter of my base and kill them off.

Then after we acquired high level wyverns, I'd just fly around on a high level fire wyvern and kill them. Other wyvern types can probably do that too. I just happened to learn how to use a fire wyvern effectively first.

While wyverns do not exist on the Island, they do on Ragnarok, Valguero, and Crystal Isles (mentioning just the free DLCs, I've played.)

This is not meant to be bragging, but rather a summary of what I think is the normal progression on a PvE server. I also have played cooperatively with at least 4 with other players when these dinos were tamed.

If you're playing solo, doing a destroywilddino command will work. I for one would not blame you for that, since it usually does require modifications or admin commands to even the playing field for solo or small group of players.

Alphas raptors can damage even stone structures. Alpha raptors aren't usually that tanky, but if they're getting buffed from another alpha, more so if its another alpha raptor of the opposite gender for mate boost, they can get pretty tanky then at high levels.

And according to the wiki they also get +720 hp per level up point put into hp. A level 76 alpha raptor might have 10-20 points into hp. which is like 18k hp if 20 points are into hp.

Not the only giant middle finger you'll encounter. Build for loss.

One thing. You can't Tranq alpha's. So don't waste your tranq arrows on them.

Could have lured it away and sacrificed yourself.

Also dinos typically don't agro what they can't see.

So spikes and then a proper wall of at least 2 tiles high would stop it. 4 high to stop a rex.

Or in the short term create a small enclosed barn building.

You hate alpha raptors? Then have fun with alpha rexes and alpha wyvern. :)

My favourite way of getting rid of them early game is to just do a mad dash butt naked away from the base. Gets them away, you respawn without losing anything and its peaceful

They are dangerous early game, but barely a speed bump as you progress later on, where you can farm them with ease, sometimes with just a single dino, or a simple trap, hell with a good gun you can often just mow them down from the top of a rock.

Even once you progress past them, don't underestimate them. They were added presumably to ensure difficulty still exists in the later stages of the game.

I got cocky and took out a level 10 Alpha Carno with my perfect kibble tame mega-thereum. Then I tried the same thing with a level 80 Alpha carno. Yeah I lost that tame. (Honestly got kinda close tho! Just needed more bug buff.)

If you stick with it, here's a handy guide for new players.

Thanks, that's a nice resource!

alpha raptors aren't unkillable. I just called them "kingsize snack", since "snack" is what I call normal raptors. See a raptor, kill a raptor. That's my motto. Gonna have t-shirts made.

I keep a level 300ish thyla in a cryopod for killing the bigger alphas, but the alpha raptor I just kill with desmodus (what I'm flying around on 99% of them time since Fjordur came out).

alpha raptors you can take out with 1 decent high level dino. For bigger alphas I like ez-mode so I pair up a Thyla and Shadowmane, you can take alpha rexes down with ease, heck just yesterday it was night in-game and i thought i was fighting a regular rex, then it said your thyla has killed a level 140 giga XD

I've come a long way since posting this cause I've played so much since posting it.

I've now killed alpha raptors, alpha carnos, and even a few alpha T Rexes with my level 160 Argentavis, so they are not really much of a threat to me anymore. I even tamed a Giga (solo) so now with that chonky boi I think my base should be safe now lol.
