Wyverns in Scorched Earth
Hey everyone, Been playing in Scorched Earth for a while now, and thought i'd share some tips about the dragons everyone wants.
When me and my friends hopped on Scorched Earth looking for these beauties, there was sooooo much info out there, alot of it wrong, patched, or maybe the most annoying not explained at all. Now that i've been through it on an official pvp server (because players giving advise from modded or resource altered servers is basically useless), i can make life easier for some other people in the same position.
Biggest thing i'd like to clear up, wyverns NEVER eat anything but milk during their growth. you will need to keep your baby happy and milked up till its a full grown adult. This scared the crap out of me before, but now that i've done it, its not so bad, but we'll get back to that. Another frequent question i see, no wyverns cannot mate to produce fertilized eggs, though they go through the whole bouncing red heart thingy all dinos do when put to wander near a mate, so maybe they may allow it in the future. but for now, you want more eggs, get ready to dive into hell. As for getting the eggs, these dragons are FAST. You wont be able to just waltz into the world scar and grab an egg with a new tamed argy and get right to the wyverns. Your bird WILL die. Horribly. Minimum speed necessary for a successful egg or milk run is 180%, or 32 levels into movement speed, and thats cutting it hella close. one wrong move, one lag hitch and you will get killed. Shoot for 190 before you head in, and try to get to 200 for the safest you can be. That being said, i would HEAVILY recommend a tapejara. They do have long tame timers, cant be kibble tamed on SE, and are on the lightside for weight and stam, but theyre possible speed and maneuverability more than makes up for it. Spend the time to get your self a high level and it will pay its weight in gold. You will need to get to a higher movement speed percent than an argy, but they can tame with levels into speed, and get 3.5 percent per level up insteads of the argies 2.5. Shoot for 235-250 before heading in. Once you get in and find an egg to your liking, get ready to grab it. first things first, check for any nearby wyverns, and watch your weight these puppies weigh 50 pounds a piece. a slowed bird is a dead bird. If you feel like you're safe, go for it. then RUNNNN. If the scar has been heavily farmed, there is a possibility you will not be noticed. but if the egg is over lvl 100, dragons will spawn to eat your soul. And they WILL. NOT. STOP. I have flown on a 300 percent speed tapejara from the scar to the mountain range on the opposite side of the red ob, losing the dragons in my max render limit. Got to base and chilled. And was shocked to see the 5 wyverns diving from the sky, my death their only goal. This seems to be the case if the egg stays in your inventory. Ive been trapped in a small outpost after stealing a 155 poison egg, unable to go anywhere for a good 12 minutes. Finally i got bored and just wanted it to end, stored the egg and all my stuff and ran outside, just in time to see the dragon leave my render limit, now bored. So when you get home, store that stuff. And keep on your toes, the lizards may still be coming. Now that you have your egg, get ready for a medium length tame. 5 hours to incubate 9 hour baby, and juvenile and adolescent rounding it out to a roughly 100 hour tame. To incubated you ll need around 15 standing torches, with a stack of sparkpowder. let em burn and youll be all set. Check occasionally for cold drops during the night time. Now about that whole milk thing. The biggest piece of bull ive heard is that killing wyverns gives you milk. IT DOES NOT. Only one creature on the servers give milk on death, and that is the alpha wyvern, which the average tribe just getting into dragons will not have the firepower for. As for how to get it the right way, only female wyverns of all three types will produce milk, on their inventories, but only after you knock them out. get your tranq darts ready, these thing wake up fast. knock em out, grab the milk, (have preserving salts on both you and your mount, and get them into the mounts inventory as quickly as you can, no worries they wont eat the stuff.) Then kill the dragon. easy exp. now you might be asking yourselves, how the hell do we safely knock these things out. Well youve already probably seen how. our ingenious gaming bretheren have figured out how to use these creatures size against them. you basically build a cage, fly in and leave your self a hole to fly out of while the hulking beast is contained. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyOGoRyq-BI i personally use this guys, its cheap easy, and can be solo'd with ease. though i added a fence foundation line to a foundation with a windmill and keypad for easy closure. a little base helps too for survival. id also suggest building as close to the center of the scar as your server will allow. a side note, DO NOT TRY TO LEAD LIGHTNING WYVERNS. They will ruin your day almost every time. Best target is a low level poison, with a low level fire coming in second. Now as for the baby itself, as i stated earlier, feeding isnt so bad. 1 milk feeds the baby 1200 food points. And they lose food SLOWLY. every 360 food will take 1 hour to empty. at the end of a nice level egg, you may be able to fill her up, and leave it be for as much as 16-17 hours. Your average baby will need to eat every 3 hours, so start on that idea, but know its only gonna get easier with time. As for how to give it the milk, especially at baby, just pop the milk in and force feed. Feel like you might not be back in a while? Fill her up and reset the timer. Keep this up and youll have a dragon in no time. Anyone have any other tips or questions let me know!

I think most of us recognize what the definition of wyvern is (dragonlike with a venomous sting and no breath weapon) according to myth and D&D. ARK devs don't. So what they put in and called wyverns ARE dragons. Does this surprise anyone really? Because it sure as hell doesn't surprise this guy.

The wyverns i know they say nothing about whether it has a sting, fire breath or can fire lasers. But the one thing im 100% certain is wyverns are a type of dragon and there is no dragon that is just called "dragon"

They are 100% dragons in this game. The developer, the person who implemented them, the gods of ark, labeled them as so. You cannot defy the gods. Just look at the advertisement for SE....DRAGONS is listed right on it.

"Stranded naked, dehydrated & starving in a vast desert, even the most seasoned ARK survivors must quickly find water, hunt for food, harvest, craft items, and build shelter to have any chance for survival. Use skills honed on ARK's faraway Island to kill, tame, breed, and ride the fantastical new creatures that have evolved to survive the Desert's ultra harsh conditions, including... DRAGONS! Travel back and forth between the Island and the Desert to team up with hundreds of players across both worlds or play locally!"

You can fight one in a boss arena. This is the genus of the dragon.

It's impossible for this Dragon to be in the same genus as the Wyvern unless "Dragon" includes Archaeopteryx, Mammoth and Sarcosuchus. In wich case, he should have said Vertebrate.

wy·vern
ˈwīvərn
noun HERALDRY
noun: wyvern; plural noun: wyverns; noun: wivern; plural noun: wiverns
a winged two-legged dragon with a barbed tail.

Origin

late Middle English (denoting a viper): from Old French wivre, from Latin vipera .
Grammar is fun and all, but we are talking about a game. In this game, there are wyverns and dragons. 2 seperate beings. Since this is a forum for said game, arguing about the possible meanings of the words is beyond useless...

And it was a comparison, not an affirmation that it is a dragon.

There are also dozens of dinos in the game. Its true, there is more than one type of dino. Just like there is more than one type of dragon. Speaking of useless, thank you.

Exactly! I can chop off its wings and call it a drake. In the end, its still a dragon.

So, if you chop a spider's legs, it becomes an insect?

Sure, if thats what you want to call it. Though no matter what you do, its still a spider.

Well, then I guess it's ok for you...

A spider is never an insect for me. It's not because you trim a bat's wings that it becomes a penguin.
