I live on a beautiful cliff but...(need advise)
O.K. so I made a beatiful house on the cliff of newbie Island. I have built a ladder down to the river mouth for easy ocean access(was scary). I have placed walls on each end of the cliff to keep out uninvited guests. The view and layout is amazing. As long as I'm not dumb with my dinos it's perfect, I thought.

One of my buddies was at the bottom of the cliff and whistled for his mount. Apparently he was in range of my dinos at the top even though he was wayyy down at the bottom of the cliff. Luckily, I was on and at my base and immediately stopped my dinos from mass suiciding off the cliff. Unfortunately, I had not accounted for other tribemates and accidents.

So, now I need to figure out how to prevent tragedy from striking in the future.

1) Walls will look like crap. I'll never get them aligned correctly and they will ruin my view.
2) Will wooden spiketraps prevent my dinos from swan diving off the side? I've never used one.
3)Are there any "Hitching Post" type mods where we could lock down certain tames and prevent them from responding to certain whistles? I'm the admin(pve server) and my buddies and I would all like this functionality.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks for reading and happy hunting!

Dinos don't suffer fall damage unless you're riding them, so they wouldn't die. Just fall off.

Railings look good stacked up ... they stop the dinos falling off but don't spoil your view

If you don't want it moving, overload it ;-)

Thanks Blaze, I didn't know that. There is a lot of ocean and river down below so it's still a bad day if and when it happens.

Are railings placeable at all without a foudation? Maybe, I could figure out a way to make the railings and the foundations look good. Anything has to be better than walls lol. Thanks Unknown!

If you are fairly good at building you could make a dino ramp down the cliff, that way if/when they fall they can be walked up easily, also Unknown's suggestion is good, wooden railings look quite nice even just 3 stacked and stop most animals from going over them, just the really big ones can step over them. If you are the tribe founder you could also set rankings for your personal dinos so only your whistles will be responded to, though in some situations that could backfire if you arent online and stuff goes down.

You can place fence foundations, which are as thick as a railing.

Gran.... you're awesome! I will do that for now until there's a mod to make them sleep or something.

Thanks for your help guys!

Thanks Kisston and thanks again blaze. I tried placing railings on fence foundations befor but, they just kept breaking. Maybe. I was doing something wrong. I'm heading back in to try again.

Thanks so much guys!

Put your house on the edge of the cliff to enjoy the view and build an enclosed dino pen behind the house, away from the cliff. You don't move your dinos "off the cliff" so you are going to use them "out the back" anyway... just store them back there.

Hint: when starting to build a base, have what you WANT it to be in mind when you first start placing structures. Saves a lot of tear down and rebuild later.

Oh, and make sure no Allos spawn there BEFORE you start building... or your gonna be putting the place up for sale in a couple of weeks.

Your going to have a problem with flyers who can just fly over walls until your buddy learns the difference between the T and J keys. Maybe have everyone in your tribe change the keybind from the "J" to one of the keys way off over there above the number pad.... just saying.

Idk if anyone has suggested this but if you're admin and rank 10 in your tribe you can make it so only certain ranks can whistle, access inventory or ride your dinos. If you raise their whitle to rank 10 and everyone else but you being lower then they won't even look at the other person.

I love that ledge you built on. It has to be my favorite place to start a new survivor.
