Mac OS Sierra compatibility?
I just upgraded to the latest Mac OS. Prior to this, Ark ran just fine, other than the occasional random crashes. PC users on the servers I played on encountered the same crashing.

Anyway...

Now running Mac OS 10.12 and the game is having EXTREME FPS loss. Pretty much unplayable. It's a real task just to craft a few things in my base. This is while playing on a SE server with some mods that do cause lag (those dragon godlings). Run runs a lot smoother while on other maps, so may be just a combination of mods on that SE server.

I've also noticed the cursor seems to be having major issues. When I bring up a menu wheel, for example, options with a dino, the mouse behaves very strange. Hard to select the options I want. This cursor issue is new and doesn't happen outside of Ark. While in a normal menu, like a smithy or inventory, everything acts just fine. This issue happens on any map I've tried.

Seeking other Mac OS Sierra users for a possible fix, if others have experienced this and know of one.

Also would like to know your in-game option settings.

My Mac specs:
iMac 5K
4 GHz i7
32 GB RAM

Edit:

Some Google searching has found me a list of Mac OS Sierra problems that will likely be rare for most. The closest thing I found on the list that describes my issue is this:

"Mouse Not Working, Mouse Functionality is Erratic with macOS Sierra:

Some users have discovered their mouse is not working at all, or the mouse may be working erratically after updating to macOS Sierra. For example, the scroll wheel functionality may become unresponsive or not work as intended. Some of these mouse issues have been narrowed down to Logitech and Razor brands, perhaps pertaining to drivers or software, but some of the erratic mouse behavior can occur with generic USB mice as well.

One possible fix for these issues is to connect the USB mouse directly into the Mac, rather than going through a USB hub."

Although this seems to be more with a mouse use within Sierra, while my issue seems to only be within Ark. I do already have my mouse connected directly to my computer, not through a USB hub. My mouse is a Madcatz MMO7 and don't have another mouse to try the game with, but will see if I can get my hands on one.

Searched around Google. Found almost nothing about this issue. Closest thing I could find was people reporting cursors moving up on the screen on their own. Fixed by unplugging any controller/joysticks plugged in. While it's not the issue I have, I unplugged my controller to try it out. No good. Still have the issue.

Found another page that talks about editing a game file to disable cursor smoothing to solve some issues. Tried it. Still no good.

Here is what I'm having happen. Bring up the radial menu, by holding E at something, like a dino for example. If I barely move the mouse forward, it hesitates to move, then goes much further than it should have. Tried making small circle movements with the mouse, whith that menu open. Similar thing again, delayed cursor movement, but the cursor moved a lot more than I moved the mouse itself.

Without any other search results on this issue, I'm stumped as to what to do.

Try deleting your mods folder.

Make sure the game isn't open.
Hold option and go to the Go menu.
Go down to Library.
Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > ARK
Right-click ShooterGame and show package contents.
Contents > UE4 > ShooterGame > Content

I would delete the contents of the Mods folder. You could also just delete the Mods folder. When I do this, I make a new folder called Mods.

Before opening the game, go to Steam and go to your games collection. Right-click ARK: Survival Evolved and go to Properties. Go to Local Files. I would do Verify integrity of game cache. Let that run and download files, if needed.

After all that, try to open the game and see if that fixed the problem.

Apologies in advance but the obligitory "Stop Gaming on a Mac".

I wasnt even aware the game officially supported Mac but if it does your probably best posting this information as bug feedback either on the bug reports section. Or by using their official forums where they answer a lot of their feedback.

I simply refuse to buy apple products so I cant be of any help but if its a recent problem with a mac update being incompatible with the game its possibly something the devs can look at.

Prior to the last 2-3 patches, the game played perfectly. The issues I've had myself have been reported in previous versions on the PC side. The "stop gaming on a Mac" is uncalled for. We game on the OS we prefer using. No point in buying a PC just for gaming, when their is so much more we enjoy doing that the Mac does wondefully.

Coming out of your way to tell us your opinion on Macs wasn't needed, but I do thank you on the info on where they do respond to, since it's apparently not here.

I usually get a more humerous response because why so serious lol and its not just my opinion :P but i did try to be helpful on where to post your info.

Obviously something in the new Mac uodate doesnt agree with the game software, it could happen on PC too but usually less likely, the devs could already be aware of it and be working on a fix but if not any info you post would be if help.

No this is clearly not the place to post your help needed bug report thread. There is a seperate forum called "Bug reports" which is very clearly the right place to post this thread. Best of luck.

I do have a post explaining the issues I've encountered in the Mac bug sticky. Haven't seen anyone respond to bugs, other than other players trying to offer help, but nothing worked.

I'm having the same problems, im running a macbook pro i7 with 8gb ram. I have been enjoying the game for montha and now with sierra the game crashes within a minute of game play. It would be nice for the devs to address this.
I know that PC are better for gaming, but i do many things with my computer, gaming is just one of them. People who say buy a pc to fix the problem are just trolls and haters ignore them.

well let me tell you on thing Genx, im a big apple fan, i have had apple products since ever
but one thing is right, that macbooks are terrible for gaming and insanely expensive.
just recently macbooks started to have i7 core. and for god sake intel iris gpu ???
i mean really. and they charge over 2k for these options.
i regret buying macbook, which you cant even upgrade or do a thing with. instead i could have spent my 2.7k dollars on a darn good PC that i can upgrade its parts anytime i want.
besides the Iphone apple hasn't done anything worth mentioning.

PS: I cant wait to sell my macbook Pro. but i hope someone would even be dumb enough to buy like i did.

Laptops are known for being less powerful than a desktop, but with the benefit of mobility. You don't buy any laptop for high-end gaming. If you want to game, you go with a desktop. This goes for both Mac and Windows.

Is there any fix for this problem? It makes Ark unplayable with a mouse. I have been playing with a PS4 controller and it works fine, but I would like to get back to using my mouse and keyboard that are brand new.

Also, I agree with Mangoatt81, you buy a desktop for gaming. Although on my Macbook Pro that is 3 or 4 years old I can run Ark just fine on medium. The only issue I have ever had gaming with my Mac is that developers tend to be a bit slow fixing bugs and doing updates.

I having the same issue playing ark as Mangoat81 and theFlyinHawaiian... is there any fix?
thx

Never did find anything out. I actually had to switch to my windows partition and play it there. Srry

@Mangoat - FWIW, I'm on the same rig, with the same problem. Never tried it under El Cap, as I moved to Sierra prior to installing anything on the box, but it's been troublesome out the gate. Would launch (sometimes) under 10.12.2, with the weirdo mousing problems mentioned earlier in the thread. Under 10.12.3+ it hangs during the "WorldEnd" section of the loading screen. Very disheartening. A buddy of mine plays a lot of Ark on his (older) Mac, and ran into similar problems before reverting back to El Cap just to play it, so it's not just newer rigs, fwiw. Definitely some combination of current Ark builds and Sierra.
