Tapajera never land/cant tame
Just looking for some insights on these critters.

After scouring the center a while i found a place where i've seen several Tapajera, so I took my boat and bodyguards over to the island, and after over an hour, the 3 (2 now, I lost track of one) Tapajera never land, and just fly higher and higher until they dont render.

So I took my Ptera to flight and am hanging out in the sky monitoring them, and they just fly in tight circles, going higher and higher, and never make any indication they are going to land.

Any time I have seen one on the ground, it got spooked, flew, and apparently spent the rest of it's entire life in the air, never landing again.

Do they just, never land on their own if rendered? Ive seen all of 2 on the ground, but they rendered there, and the moment they went airborn they never landed again and just flew until they no longer rendered. I'm concerned once they reach the height where they dont render the game will never attempt to determine their actions so they will just be frozen in stasis out of render range.

I play singleplayer primarily so a quetz is just pretty much out of the question for me right now, so that isnt an option. Any other advice is welcome.

Edit: Forgot to mention I tried herding them with my Ptera and it is not effective. I can chase them inland from sea but cannot make them lower altitude. They're crazy high in the air.

Not sure about wild dinos, but if you scare a Tapejara just kill him, he wont land anymore. I killed a lvl116 because if was so bored of keep following him around. I think it was for a good hour, it just keep flying slowly higher, it never tried to go down, even if i try to scare him from the top, or if i just follow him carefull staying far away.

That was my fear, I'm wondering if everyone seems to agree that once spooked, they need culled so they can respawn. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Your best bet is to grab mate with argent and lure it to the eadge of the map and dart it

Tapejaras actually do land. But theres a down turn, it mostly land on big open spaces like redwood. If you fly above it after you spooked it, it should try to fly down. Works sometimes for me.
If you have ghillie on, it shouldn't get spooked as easily. Bola ot, shoot it and its yours.

You can herd them back toward their spawn area and force them to land. Just fly behind them and nudge them toward the area you want them to fly toward. They also will only land in mountainous and/or forested areas. I prefer to skip all of that scare nonsense and just Grappling Hook and Argent and tame them like I would a Quetzal.

It is possible to find them on the ground.. I was able to bola a 135+ male and female tapejara.. I got around on a fast argy and hit K and just look straight down.. you just need to have a ghillie suit, some spike walls and bolas..

the first one allows baby and juvenile flyers to spawn on occasion and they can't fly untill you mature them. the second one has a number of goodies including Aqua breeding but the best of all Quetzals they are made to be extremely aggressive and land continuously, don't be confused with the idea that that's easy they are very hard to take down while they're trying to kill you. I use both these mods and love them.

Thanks for everyone's feedback, it seems like these might be a little bit of a pain to tame due to their programmed behavior. Unfortunately, like I mentioned, This is in my singleplayer game, so a friend to help isn't an option, and my only flier is a pteranodon.

Maybe my chore list is a bit out of order because after the Tapajera tame, I was going to get an Arg next, then go find some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ penguins to get some of the stealth armor, but have not found them as of yet. I know I can look it up, and have an idea where theyre at anyways, as I've explored everything BUT the frozen area, so that's definitely on my list.

Also thank you for the mod suggestions, however, this is my 'learning play through', my first game where I've managed to advance pretty well, so I'm very much experiencing most things for the first time. It's for this reason I have only adjusted a few settings in the SP slider, and avoided mods. I'm the type of player that needs to experience it as normal first, before I'm ready to start modding, however, both of those mods that @rommel64 suggested sound great, but I'm just not ready for that yet.

Thanks again everyone, I will put our collective knowledge to use and plod along forward... once I bring my shipment of bad ass turtles to this island to wipe out the 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ alphas that spawned and are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up. :stress:

Oh, I do want to point out that, despite someone reporting they do land, I watched 2 different ones just fly for over an hour without landing. I only left them out of LOS to return to the ground to refill stam on my pteranodon, and never once did they do anything but tard out humping the sky.

So, if someone else has seen them land regularly, great. Mine just fly for an hour+ and dont land. So even if they do land, they may take over an hour straight without landing while being aggressively monitored, and much longer with having left only returning to find them in the exact same spots.

Just wanted to share. I've literally spent a real life day watching these 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ before i decided to kill them. No less than 2 hours of game time, and more like 3-4 total. Each time i returned they were in the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spot in the sky and never made any indication of desiring to land.

So like I said, sure, they might land. But you might spend 4+ hours in real life waiting for it apparently.

Don't know about the center but i know on scorched they actually DO land even after being spooked (With a 200 movement argy you can follow em... ) But it does take a lil bit of time. Best tip i've found that worked for me is to use the ghille suit. After that find one that's landed and land far enough away from it that you won't spook it but you can run over to it with your bola and bola it to the ground. After that 1 or 2 tranq darts to the brain and it's out cold.

But yea it does seem like they fly forever however you can still find ones that are already on the ground.

Hope what worked for me works for you as well ;)

Edit : I just remembered that your best bet is the redwood forest as they like to hang around in the trees there so if you see one hanging from a tree you could potentially bola it while it's perched. But that's just a theory however i do know from trial and error that the ghille works best for these lil basterds :P

There are lots of penguins, and some Argents in the newly added zone on the Center. The open cavesystem beneath the tundra/snow biome. Great place!

A theoretical way to get big flyers that never want to land:

Get a big flyer
Saddle it with a platform saddle
Build a Ballista on the platform
Load Ballista with Bola harpoon
Go aerial hunting.

Have Fun! ^_^

I use the Ark Advanced 10 mod. The tranq darts are very potent. So to get a Tapajara... you just need to shot it once....

Some dinos in Ark are almost impossible to get solo - so use these mods to help you. No point in missing out on Tapajara and Quetz etc just because you play SP.

No dinos are impossible to get solo.

If you can get an argent, then you can get a quetz. And if you can get a quetz, you can get a tapejara.

All you need are a platform saddle, a foundation, two (maybe even 1) dino gates, about 15-20 walls and 6 or so ceilings and you can make a catcher for every kind of flier except quetzals. As I type this I'm floating in my catcher with a 150 Tapejara I just solo caught.

Tapejaras are not early game tames. If you don't manage to get them on the ground, you won't get them unless you have a quetz.
