Tapejara - Spawn & Behavior, Tips & Tricks?
If you like me are having difficulty with all things Tapejara:

Spawn: I have had success on The Island around the Green Obelisk locating the elusive Tapejara. Dawning a full Ghillie outfit is very handy. I have tranq'd three of them with the following method: fly in on my Pter and a good run away from the Tapejara (usually around a corner), I approach in my Ghillie attire. I am able to hit it with a bola and then rifle tranq until it is knocked out.

I have however not actually tamed one yet because of a hillarious series of calamities that have killed each and every one so far. I highly recommend having spiked walls in your inventory when you get your bird to avoid the casual Alpha Raptor from eating your prize and killing you for added enjoyment

Behavior: If you do not have the enormous good fortune to find a Tapejara near the ground, you are in for a frustrating and futile experience. These MF will not land. They just will not. And if you spook them, they will fly into the sun never to be known to land again. When you spook them they run - run for the hills. Run with no regard for direction, no regard for the climate or territory. I have chased these little buggers for more hours than I care to acknowledge and it is a complete waste of time.

An update that maybe curbed the behavior of a spooked Tapejara would be amazing. Maybe if they could actually get tired, or if there could be some limit on the gobsmacking heights that they ascend to would be amazing.

Does anyone else have wisdom to share on their adventures taming the elusive Tapejara?

I've found you can kind of herd them towards mountains where you might be able to get close enough to bola them. The trick is that when they are where you want them to be, quickly fly away to out of render range so they stop fleeing.

Until they start running higher than the mountains, and then they are lost. It is difficult once they approach the mountain. I have run them into the Volcano, but it is full of so many curves on the side I find it impossible to approach them for the brief moment they are grounded.

Yeah I just get them around a spot that has an area where i can land and stand, then get them to stop fleeing. They will then lazily circle the same area over and over for a while so you can get in position and try and anticipate a place that it will fly over. Get low with the ghillie on and whenever it gets in range spam bolas. I think it took me about 7 bolas to bring down 2 with this method. I did have to herd it all the way from near the obelisk to the mountain top though because I liked the color.

Quetzal cage is a viable strategy, as long as your Quetzal is fast enough to at least keep up with it from flying out of vision conpletely. Just slowly herd it towards the edge of the map and make them fly into the barrier and you can carefully allign your cage for the capture. The only downside is that you'll have to make sure you have everything ready at hand as otherwise it'll fall into whatever danger that lurks below.

They also share territory with the argentavi and we all know that those birds are a bag of ♥♥♥♥♥ when it comes to sharing their territory. Tapejara are hunted relentlessly by thos feathered chicken ♥♥♥♥♥.

A new tactic is to wolf down a few rare flowers to make the Tapejara aggro on you and fly it into cage or a safe place with a Ptera.
There are 2 primary strategies-

1-Find one on the ground, sneak up on it using a ghille suit, then bola it.
2-Chew on a rare flower to piss it off then bola it when it tries to attack you.

They have over nerfed that bird. They used to be very skittish, at any sign of trouble they would fly off, go miles away at speed, and often stay high.

Now tho, they tend to stay low, even when being attacked by wild dinos they are slow to flee and even at that they dont necessarily fly off.

So you dont even need to use rare flowers if they are on the ground, just run up and bola. If you do spot one in the sky you like the look of, then flowers are great - you dont even need lots, just 1 keeps it on you for I dont know how long, but long enough that I could spot a quiet area below and let it follow me (it continued to attack even after the status effect was gone). Have your flyer on passive, jump off, and KO it.

The advantage of using rare flowers is that you actually can lure the Tapa pretty easy back home into your taming pen.
