Why not Vulture for same role then? :)
Vultures don't warn you of weather changes.

Just like dimorphodons don't have ranged attacks, or mesopithicus can't fly. You can't just have everything :)

Who needs a flying shoulder-plate, or backpack?

Don't think Mammal breeding is in, yet.
Mammal breeding has been in for a long time just about a week after breeding came out.
Hey guys, the babies need to have food at all times.

Breeding for stats? Pointless. But Jerboas are actually useful to breed. Have a good number of females on hand and you have an easy source of prime meat for taming purposes. Get a pregnant one and take it with you when you go to tame a predator. It'll take some forethought to get the timing right but if you work with your tribemates you can have a rotation of pregnant females providing you with all the prime meat you need with minimal effort. They also seem to give birth to twins fairly frequently, so that's a bonus.

This clash so much with:

But I heard they breed them to get some rare coloration and someone sold an "angelic" (whatever this means) jerboa on an official the island for an imprinted Giga.

we still don't have Insect breeding yet, do we? haven't tried with Mantis yet, as I don't think many if any would care to breed much else...

I wanna breed Mantis 8P
No, I don't think so. Either that or water-based life forms. There should be a Titanomyra queen, like the giant bees. That way we can control ants to collect resources into one pool.
it is possible on official, did that for imprinting.

with 91% imprinting jetboa got much more heatlh and food, stats crytical to keep it alive.
unlike the others creatures you can breed, you can't do anything else when rasing jerboas. they have just 55 hp at lvl 1 and really small weight so they can die fast and easysince at baby stage whey have only ~1% of that. to raise a jerboa I had 10 stacks of mejos in my inventory - my previous baby died when I was walking to the fridge with berries for another stack.

So, I for one see an obvious reason for breeding jerboas: colors. Most jerboas you findhave very average colors. Then, when you find one you like, it often has one color you don't. You could breed that color out. I had a jerboa that was all black and white, like a tuxedo cat, uthad blue stripes. I hadplans to breed outthe blue stripes, but was wiped over night. >.>

Another reason for breeding Jerboas could be: They are cute. ...Probably not a logical reason, but a reason all the same.

ehh, I think Mutations will be RNG for better stats... like, a baby pops out with increased HP etc... or the adverse; incest might incur negative mutations, like wayyy Lower HP.

cross-species stuff (if ever even) will likely be in the Tek Tier with some sort of Bio-Engineering test tube babies...
