I can tell you for a fact that they do not stay in the air entirely. The tend to fly near the ground but, when spooked, can fly really high and far.
OP-You're only hope is to catch one already on the ground...idk what to tell yah.
and an issue I have is when ever I try to land, my fly mount I use seems to always get attacked by those stupid spiders/bugs and so I have to leave so it doesn't get killed.
Yeah, I first went over to the redwood island (on the center map) and didn't see a single one even after doing a wild dino refresh, so then I went back to my home island and found 3. However, when i was at the redwood island, I wasn't aware just how high they tend to fly, so maybe they were there but just soaring above the trees.
I'm not sure why all the complaining about the behavior of the Tappy's though. No one said anything about how they would behave so I don't understand where all the complaining about them not staying in the trees or not flying away from the redwoods is coming from. I don't know why anyone would have assumed those things. They are behaving exactly like I would expect a real creature being hunted would.
Yeah, that's what i've tried (since i'm solo i do it while parachuting), but trying to get close enough to bola them, but not so close that they spook, combined with their ability to turn on a dime (as well as parachute 1st-person vision issues) makes them quite hard to hit. Been through about 15 parachutes and probably 45 bolas, but haven't managed to hit one yet.
My issue with how high they fly isn't really a complaint - if that's how they're supposed to behave then that's fine... i just wondered if it was intentional or not because the ones i've seen fly so high that even on max view distance you have to be above the average wild ptero flight height before you can even see them. It just struck me as abnormal enough that it might be a bug or unintended behavior.
If that's intended then i'll just think of them as prehistoric U2s or something :P
