Scorched earth: Death Worm vs Desert Base?
Im curious if anyone knows any info here. Say i build a base in the middle of the sand dunes out on the edge of the map. Can Death worms just dig right under neath and pop up and eat me/dinos stored behind walls? this would make for a hilarious scene, for everyone watching. devastating if you were to have it happen.

YES YES THEY CAN
Stone fountain in the middle of the base...death worm came right up in the middle of the base, instantly destroying the stone fountain they pop up from and damaging a lot of stone around them.

Later on made a metal base and they can't seem to damage that, or pop up from the ground

hmmm so i just need a metal base... or a metal base on stilts. I think the idea of living in the desert with the death worms and reenacting scenes from tremors would be fun lmao

With spike walls underneath. Everyone underestimates the glorious power of metal spike walls.

Metal base......in the dunes.....anybody not in God mode or with 3000+ fortitude won't last long enough to get eaten by a worm...........

He doesn't need to necessarily make it all out of metal, only the foundations.

just make sure your roof above player area is adobe; optionally with metal roof above the adobe roof

Really ? I tried today using stone foundations and walls with an adobe roof, as soon as I went in I went from no status warning to overheating.

Gday All,

Just built our brand new base on our server in the sand dunes and was commencing construction of our new (adobe) barn, large enough to fit Wyvens and our other Dino's.
During a Dino rellocation maneuver we were attacked by a Deathworm that spawned next to our base. The Deathworm immediately agro'd on me (anklyo) as expected, I hastely beat the retreat to our temp barn but had complications with a construction error. The Deathworm attacked me 3-4 times. Then realising it was next to a structure, began savagely attacking the newly laid (adobe) foundations destroying 90% of the massive 15x10 adobe base platform in about 30 sec leaving the remaining foundations an utter shambles.

It appears on post mortem examination of our (would be) structure that, Deathworms cause massive damage output against Adobe structures and the Area of effect fo the Deathworm is massive.

so my questions are:

is it worth it ( on cost vs reward basis) to have a base in the sand dunes for closer proximity to the Crevasse of Doom (Wyven Canyon)?

Was our stucture attacked because we had engaged the Deathworm in combat 1st then he realized our structure?

Why the ♥♥♥♥ are they allowed to attack structure period?!

kind regards,

saintjacktar

I am sorry for your loss....we all know the pain of losing a beloved construction site, often taken from us far to early........

Re your questions: One - if you have a Wyvern to go in the barn, why the need to build so close to the canyon - the map is relatively small and a 90 second flight on a Wyvern gets you completely across the map. Two - not sure about the Worm's AI target selection process - I suspect they are just opportunistic building eaters, most(all) aggro'd dinos will attack players first, then tamed dinos then structures. Three - in line with number two, virtually all aggro'd critters bigger than a Jerboa will attack structures if a moving target isn't available as it forces us not to just runaway and ignore them.

One single player they can't get through a gate fence... They count as WALKING dinos and can't go over walls that are built so high. They don't actually burrow like the animation shows. If you have a large fence around your building they should not spawn or pop up in your base.

Can confirm it smashed up our dragon catching base. Literally tore straight through it

Use metal foundation, then put an adobe ceiling on top of the foundation (without any walls). It shouldn't cook you too much.
