How to tame quetzal in SP?
Are there any easier ways to tame a quetzal in SP rather than carrying a scorpion with your argentavis? It's a real pain in the ass to get them down..

Not sure the scorpion method still works since the great nerf, it was easy enough to kill the bird even before.
The most common thing mentioned these days is to grapple onto an argentavis, and having that one attack the quetzal so you can fire tranq arrows/darts at it.

Could try building a ballista on a speedy paracer or bronto and try and shoot it down with a metal bola. Then spam it with ♥♥♥♥ tons of tranqs from a mastercraft or higher tier bow.

Yes. Get an argent and a crossbow with a few grappling hooks. Locate a quetzal you'd like to tame then land and grapple to your argent's chest. Whistle the "attack this target" on the quetzal so your argent will go after it (bring a spyglass along). When your argent gets close to the quetzal, whistle passive and shoot the quetz with tranq darts. When the quetzal gets agroed, whistle attack this target again, rinse and repeat.
I suggest you try to tame a really low level quetz with this method, then get a quetz platform saddle, build a cage and tame a high level with that method, it's much easier. I was trying to tame a level 16 quetz with the grappling method, took 70 darts, so bring a lot (missed shots, torpor drop). But this is the easiest way so far.
Enjoy your new quetz :)

Aha! Thanks you. Yes I planned on taking a low level quetz first then a higher one once I'm able to fly on the first one.

Besides that. I'm thinking about having a few chests on the saddle, so I can bring tons of metal down. Does the chests and their inventory add up to the calculated weigth for the quetz?

There is the grapple-argy method Housatonic mentioned (just make sure oh whistle off the attack before it actually hits the quetz; the point is to get the argy to move near the quetz). There is also the parachute method. Have a stack of parachutes in your inventory and a spyglass. Fly near the quetz at higher altitude, jump off your bird and open a parachute. Start shooting the quetz. When it gets too far, spyglass your bird to follow you, jump back on your bird, and repeat.

Don't bother starting with a high level quetz. Get the lowest level one you can find (the lower the better) for easier KO and faster tame since you'll be taming in uncontrolled location. Put a platform saddle on that with a quetzal cage and use that one as your quetzal catcher for a high one.

Yes, they do.

The parachute method is higher risk, but lower materials cost. The grapple hook is safer, but higher material cost.

Okay Housa, ty. No too much use for them to transport metal then. I will be running a lot of argentavis' behind following me tho.

Could someone paste a link to a Quezal cage. Never knew how to make them well. :-P

I use a modified version of this.

I reverse it for a front catch rather than a rear catch. The rear catch requires you to line up and let the Q fly in. The front catch allows you to "scoop" the Q. I will try to get a screen of my modifiied version a little later. I changed a few things up for safety and convenience (such as using doorways, fences, and extra ceiling tiles in strategic places).

You can wait for the Tapejara to be released. I don't really know, but maybe it will make the quetz taming easier!!

For 2 people it could. But I don't see it changing the solo tame.

A basi on a platform saddled land mount with a chain bola,
Get under it fire,
Once it lands u got 30-40 seconds to place 4 foundations and alot of walls to seal that bugger to the ground.
Then you got all eternity to tranq it.

I'm not sure how usefull they will be for quetzal taming since the pilot will only be able to make use of weapons when the dino is latched onto a surface. It might work on the center but I doubt it will be usefull on the island. But outside of SP it should make quetz taming easier for sure since the passenger can still use weapons while in flight.
