Best Ways to Get Metal? (I'm on Center Map too)

I read anklyo is best but do I need to ride it? Which rocks? I am trying river rocks with stone axe and rarely get 1 metal. I used metal axe but DANG was wearing it down at the rate I was mining metal!

Anklyo is best for metal/obsidian/crystal. Doedicurus is pretty good for rocks.

You ride the Anklyo and attack rocks. Light brown colored rocks on mountains and hills are metal rocks, black colored rocks are obsidian rocks.

If you have no idea what they look like, go into the skull island and you should be able to find samples of them, just make sure you don't fall into the lava.

River rocks rarely give you metal with a pick. They do give quite a bit of metal to an ankylo, though.

If you do have to do it by hand, pick, not axe, for metal. But you're only going to get a few from stone-rocks, as opposed to the shiny rocks windvally mentions. Either way, pick, not axe.

Are there 'light brown' colored rocks on hills of the Central? Mid Jungle area? I don't feel like there is.

Yes, in a number of places. Not spread everywhere like the blue obelisk island, but I know of at least four good-sized clusters of metal, three of which also have crystal. They tend to be high up.

I already read that. Based on my initial post. I was looking for STEAM personal accounts. Cuz those are better than basic wiki posts.

The wiki posts tells you exactly how to get metal well:

1.) use metal PICK on actual metal rocks.
2.) It even shows you screenshots of what the actual metal rocks look like.
3.) River stones are not metal rocks.

If you'd read it then you wouldn't of had to make this thread.

HAH! I found it! Way up the top of Jungle North, along a winding path, you come up to the top where there is metal rocks!

Skull Island is a one stop shop, depending on where your base is.

I found obsidian and crystal there. But I don't recall metal ore there?

There's a really good mining spot directly SW of the skull island with mostly metal rocks on a cliff next to a redwood, if it's not camped out you can build a nice tree base directly above the deposits and get more metal than you'll ever need.

yah i see on the map. I'm still stuck on trying to survive the jungle regions.. Redwood kept kickin my butt. I may try and setup a base down there at some point.

Just tamed my first anklo!
Last one I tried to tame... a T-Rex shows up. Pffft.
