the chore is just gathering the materials and setting it up. but once you got the dino trapped it just removes 99% of disasters that could happen when attempting to tame something.
use net + stone doors, billboards or only a trap with ramps
Highly recommend using a harpoon launcher to start off to take down the yuty while you kill anything nearby.
You can then hit the yuty with tranqs a few times and harpoon it again to finish the KO with more tranqs.
I use a high damage crossbow for everything I can and heal with a snow owl if needed.
I use a snow owl with points into stam to keep it frozen long enough to run down the net cool down, I would then jump off and hit it with a net gun before it has a chance to move anywhere. Make sure you reload the netgun before trying to freeze to make things easier.
The above method works great if you fly in on a desmodus as you can shoot directly off the back of the desmodus, pick up direwolves and kill them quickly, and also kill off nearby hostile creatures of pretty much any type short of possibly a giga. Picking up the direwolves is a huge bonus for the yuty as they do fight eachother and in order to take them out without picking up you would be attacking the wolves and the yuty at the same time increasing the chance of the yuty dieing. As a bonus you can turn on night vision when the sun goes down and be able to quickly identify threats. Could also bring rare flowers to make clearing the area faster and easier once you net the yuty but I have not tested the usefulness of this. Don't get roared
Standard taming equipment for me include:
maewing (mass narcoberries on demand and excellent transportation)
snow owl
desmodus
Spyglass
Stack of health brews (mainly because I play a lot in rag and often glide through murder-murder)
Food/water (usually cooked lamb chops + canteen or custom consumables)
Harpoon launcher with several Net projectiles, one of which is preloaded
Highest damage crossbow with 100+ tranqs, one tranq pre-loaded or at a minimum double checked that it is in fact set to tranqs (because I do sad lolz type stuff all the time)
Otter around my neck with a stack of dodo kibble for munchies plus taming kibbles. (otter eats dodo kibble first, and quite rarely)
GPS (screenshot location of anything you want to comeback to - or your location before dismounting a tame in case you die)
Hatchet+axe which i rarely use but appreciate when I need them
High damage pump action shotgun with 50-100 shells, 6 preloaded.
Fully ghilli suit or armor of your choice.
As many other people have said, use taming pens. It's the only smart move. Not only to keep the dino from running away like a chickenhead during the taming attempt, but to _protect_ the knocked out tame afterwards. Lost count of how many perfect tames were ruined by some idiotic predator running in and biting a tranqed tame.
If you're on a modded server and you have structures +, you can even pick up the parts and re-use them for further taming attempts.
If you're on a modded server, and you have admin access, you can use admin commands to fix glitches too. I trapped a yuty once, netted it, put gates around it, shot it with 2 tranquilizing shots... and then poof. It just disappeared. Gone.
I thought long and hard, and then opened up my admin console and just spawned in a replacement. It was the wrong sex, and didn't have the stats I was after. Tamed it, added to the collection, and ignored it. But it made me feel better afterwards.
Take the kibble/meat/berries away. Force feed it a bunch of stim berries if you want it to wake up slightly faster.
If you wait to feed it until you know it's hungry enough to finish taming, but it gets hurt while you're waiting, they'll still be hungry if you let them wake up and knock them back out (instead of having to start from scratch).
