For the sake of clarity instead of saying what you have, go to the steam help menu, click system information and copy paste all that here so that we can see what steam detects for your rig there might be discrepancies that can help improve performance in the long run.
That said, you can also use the nvidia Geforce experience program which tells you the recommended settings to play ark in for your card. Since you've an even older CPU that may also need to be taken into consideration.
Lastly, Ark is dynamic in terms of performance. Asking for specific settings is not going to be a stationary thing if performance is a concern for you. Reasons for this range from the differences in map renderings, player choices of play settings(up'd wild dino counts for example), use of lots of mods, to having mall sized bases and dino lots.
So even the best rigs available per conditions imposed in the game can have performance issues because of those dynamics if pushed.
So we can't give you a one size fits all settings recommendation because variables can and do change while playing.
I wanted to know which version of the game to run at startup, because there are different options:
direct x 10, for a small amount of memory and something related to the sky and others (I can’t name it in more detail). I didn't mean graphics settings. I just want to understand from the possible options when you first start the game, which is the most optimal for a comfortable game. I have listed the specs of the computer so people know if I need a direct x 10 or a low memory variant
Unless you experience significant issues most would tell you to use the normal game play one.
However, what I said above still applies. There is no one cure all setting for playing due to the dynamics and variables involved whilst playing.
Try normally, if you have issues, adjust settings there, if you still have issues, adjust through those launch mode choices etc etc.
I know you what a more definitive answer but the reason those options exist is to tailor to the conditions hardware, settings, and game play choices players make. You're just going to have to adjust around to your specific variables.
I understand you, I will use a normal game. Thanks for the detailed answer.
When I started the game I was confused because I had never seen so many options to choose from before.
I decided that this is not just so, and each of them exists in order to solve a specific problem or is a universal option for a certain category of computer characteristics. Thank you, I'll play the normal one.
