To tame a Shadowmane, you must sneak up on it (crouch while wearing a Ghillie Suit or having consumed Cactus Broth) while it is sleeping. Feed it a Filled Fish Basket of at least 0.5x size. The type of fish does not matter and the level of the fish does not matter. Note that fish sizes in ARK are rounded. A 1.5 fish could actually be 1.45 or 1.54, which can make a noticable difference, so bring extra fish.
EDIT: you don't need to use hatchframes as nooblet did in his video, you can use solid ceilings for the floor. The shadowmane WILL clip through the floor, and you will get a prompt to feed it fish.
I heard they nerfed that taming pen method... but then heard it still works, so I'm not sure anymore if it even works.
If I remember right, your taming effective is entirely tied to the weight of the fish. The easiest fish to trap are the piranhas (since they will come to you), but they average around 0.9 per piranha, meaning you will lose some taming effectiveness. I forgot the exact number, but I think at around 1.6 wgt or above, the taming effectiveness loss is zero... only bad news is after the post fishing rod blueprint nerf, all the fish are small. I'm not going to trap fish somewhere else in Gen 2 and bring them (or on another map and transfer them), that's looney tunes.
By the way, any attempt to sneak up on sleeping shadowmanes in the wild was a complete disaster. If the shadowmane wakes up, you lose ALL taming if it sees you (that was the major benefit of the pen, it blocked line of sight). And there's simply too many hostile threats running around on the rockwell side of the map. I tried for a few days to do it the "legit" way, and then simply stopped. Waste of time.
