Common causes of this:
1. Having higher wild dino counts than things should be.
2. Using mods such as classic flyers (and or in combination with point 1).
3. Other mod conflicts.
4. Playing on a map so long that spawn distributions become out of synch/balance. Using a destroywilddinos can sometimes help with that but in the case of points 1-3, that will not alleviate it.
and not for stealth either, but to straight face tank the wyverns. I've been farming the frost wyverns over in Jotunheim for a while now (to be honest, I haven't tried it against lightning wyverns, but shadowmanes are crazy tough). In the frost trench, I can tank 5-6 wyverns at once, lose a few thousand health (the shadowmane I used has 43,000 health) and simply destroy the wyverns. The wyverns ridiculously huge wings and tails make great targets, even though the shadowmane can't fly, it's easy to hit them.
The shadowmanes have 80 armor built in, put a debuff on enemies that reduces overall damage, and they put out decent damage with their regular attacks, and then their assassination strike putting out thousands of damage. plus they can tag targets and then do their teleport strike to stun them for a few seconds. And their teleport leap can allow you to get away fairly quickly too.
On other maps, the shadowmanes have become my default egg stealer. On crystal isles, I just steal eggs, run and launch straight into the ocean and swim away (shadowmanes are FAST underwater). I lose the wyverns really quick. Even on lost island, I can leap up to the little niches on the cavern walls where the frost wyverns spawn (which I will admit, takes some practice), and land right in the little cubbyholes to steal the eggs, then run away.
I forgot about Shadowmanes though, being so struck with the new map. I must go and get some.
Shadowmanes do spawn in Fjordur, but are extremelyyyyy rare. I've seen 1 (one) shadowmane, ever, in asgard. Genesis 2 is way better to tame them, with all the rivers that criss cross all over the rockwell side of the map (so you can trap fish). They spawn more frequently, and you get more options to pick from. I had to build THREE traps, because I'd see whole packs where I wanted to tame ALL of them. I'd have to lure 1 into a trap, then the 2nd, so I could concentrate on taming the 3rd.
no they can not. I use my desmo/hawk/organic poly trick to take eggs all the time, go in at night cloaked, hop off and snag the egg and immediately down some poly to die. spawn back at your bed with a inventory next to ya with a nice big ole egg in it. Only way the wyverns see you is if you already snagged a egg, or night ended
