Non-dedicated cheat enabling

Over the past couple of days I have had a headache trying to enable cheats for a particular person attempting to join within my non-dedicated LAN server with little success. Of the numerous threads I have found, the multitude of them were either discussing their own frustration with attempting this or providing a non-functional solution that more often than not failed or was simply for a completely different platform entirely.

As my own friend and I are not 'hardcore' players of this game(as of yet), it was important to us that we both have access to this console to have a little fun with the functions it provided. As the host this was, of course, no problem for me, but still could not be done for that gaming partner.

Now that I have accomplished this, I feel like I have been skipping the obvious the entire time. It was almost frustrating how easy this turned out to be to accomplish. I know many of you out there may already have done this(as that may attest to the lack of successful discussions out there, or it may be that I am the only idiot that missed this), but I thought I would put this out there to solve the problems of others out there that are still searching.

When you have started up your game of ARK and are configuring your settings for your NON-dedicated server you will notice the very usual set of buttons for beginning your game. Really, there is nothing special you need to do here, so you can go ahead and begin your session once the settings are to your liking.

Here, it will ask you to enter in the session name, and then the password. Remember it, as THIS PASSWORD IS IMPORTANT to activate the console command that will enable your friend to cheat to his/her heart's content. Once your game has begun and your friend has had the ability to FULLY enter within it, simply have that friend type "EnableCheats <password>" where <password> should be replaced with what you entered to be your non-dedicated server's password.

And, well, there you go. That's it, really. A lengthy post to do what could have been learned from a quick ARK Wikipedia[ark.gamepedia.com] lookup, but there are those of us out there that understand how hard it can be to take the simplest path in solving problems at times.

It should be noted that I myself attempted this fix, and have yet to remove the changes I have made to my settings. If the steps here do not work for you, I suggest you take a look at it. Though a possibly easier way to find the correct Steam ID is to use the command "ListPlayers" in-game WITH your friend connected rather than using the provided site on that particular post.

I had a hard time figuring out how to do this (and I read quite a few other posts on how to do it)...I just totally misunderstood the other posts. I thought my son who started the non-dedication session had to type "EnableCheats <NewPassword>". Your post finally helped a noob like me understand what I was supposed to do. Thanks!

So, my wife and I are playing on a non-dedicated that I host, but I can't seem to use any cheats myself. So the person with Admin rights has to enter the enable cheats too?

You'll know it is enabled when you see an admin icon over their head.
