Starting Over
I just started playing ARK: Survival Evolved and everytime i start to play i have to start all over, making a pick, fire, ax, etc. Why doesn't it save my progress?

Are you playing single player or multiplayer?

Also, do you keep your engrams/level or are those gone too?

If you're playing multiplayer, remember your body stays in the game world when you log off, so you can get killed by dinosaurs (or on PvP servers other players) that come across your body.

Saves are server based so playing on a different server is that you have different character.

honestly, if you create a new toon after you die, its rather your own doing. when you die you have the option of spawning in a random location ( you keep your engrams and levels but lose everything on your person) or creating a new survivor ( lose everything including engrams and levels). if you just spawn in a random location it will be just that, unless you have a bed down or are in a tribe that has a bed or beds down, then you simply have to select which bed you want to spawn on then choose spawn randomly. it sounds contradictory because it is. having a bed selected spawns you on that bed rather than randomly. you will also have 15 minutes to make it back to your bag (which drops everything when you die that was on your person) before it despawns (losing everything).

sorry but thats the best help i can give in this situation

You drop your items on death. You either need to create new ones like you're doing or run back to your corpse and take back your items.

Your character does not vanish when you log out - it stays in the world, laying down to sleep in the spot you left him/her. The next dino that comes by eats you, or the next bored player that comes by drags your sleeping character into the water to drown for lols or to take your stuff.

Your first job, if you want to be able to log out and return to a living character, is to learn to make the thatch floor, ceiling and walls, and make yourself a hut to sleep in when you log out.

keep in mind that thatch is easy to destroy so it won't keep you safe against anything determined to get you, but anything else won't bother you

Also, make sure you are not playing in Hardcore mode. Hardcore mode will force you to create a new character after every death, losing all levels and progress.
