The maps are actually very small...
And i guess no one is going to risk that.
There was a wow private server where everyone was admin, but there was so much unused space, we made each our own little kingdom with our own scripted npcs that did what we wanted them to do (some boss script made there was just amazing). And we invited each other over to see our creations, made some RP, played on self organized events...
Just building with fly/ghost on or off is a big change. Also, crafting takes a lot of time. A lot. You might not feel it as you gather>craft>build>repeat, but when you are used to have everything on the tip of your finger...
Maybe a server with all engrams having 0 requirement (level and mats) with player resistance set to 0.
And that would be pretty close. I've seen somewhere a mod that allows you to instant tame a dino you are looking at with a click...
Which is a lot of work... Needs to be motivated by a good community or it will die very fast.
