Heat Shimmer Issues [SOLVED (I think?)]
EDIT: As of right now, I think the Desert Goggles help reduce the effect's... effectiveness, so I'm going to say that it is the solution. Thanks for the reponses everyone!

Hello, I just recently got Scorched Earth and have just started it up and have run into an issue with the "heat shimmer" effect in the desert. It makes it almost impossible to see anything past an arm's reach of my character. Is there a way to turn off the effect or maybe a mod that fixes it, because the game's almost unplayable for me. :(

I'm... not sure? I have a GlobalShaderCache-PCD3D_SM4.bin in the Engine, is that what you mean?

If you are out in the heat without desert gear or adobe shelter you will eventually get heatstroke which starts to blur your vision as it gets progressively worse. Eventually you'll get a tunnel vision whiteout that makes it hard to see anything. You need to get under cover (tent) to dissipate it ideally.

Even if you (ha) use commands like god and inifintestats? And I don't think that was the issue, it was more of the zigzagging heat shimmering, like it's moving back and forth in the distance at an almost ridiculous rate.

Yup, thats severe heatstroke. You get all wobbly and your peripheral vision is screwed completely (whiteout) and you can only see a very narrow area ahead of which which wobbles all over the place. Craft a tent if you can and go sit in it for a bit.

I hate to break it to you, but... That's kind of the point - you're not supposed to see anything more than a foot or two in front of your character. Scorched Earth is hard mode. You need to craft the desert gear with those goggles, and you'll be fine (either way, take shelter).

Just like if it's dark, you're not supposed to be able to adjust the gamma (unless private server settings) because it defeats the purpose. Craft a torch, or if end game craft those lovely night vision goggles. :)

The thing is that the peripheral is fine and my character seems fine as well. It isn't very narrow at all?

Hrn. I still think it's at a point where it makes the game almost unplayable, but let me try spawing some goggles and seeing if I get some reliefe with them.

You do know taking screenshot always helps instead of people trying to guess your problem.

The goggles did seem to help in making it not as bad. As for a screenshot I have a few of it without the goggles at this link:

You don't really see the shimmer effect very well in them. The goggles def make it more dealable though, so I think that's the solution I'll stick with.

The screenshots all look normal. Its the desert graphics effect that you're seeing like on the 2nd pic the supply drop light beam.

everything looks normal.. the goggles really only help during a sandstorm, they will shutter down when one happens. Your POV setting looks a bit off, maybe adjust that?

Thanks for the help and suggestions. It seems not as obnoxious after messing with some settings. Thanks again!
