*SOLVED* Update paused. Content file locked.

Just got home and there was a small update. In the game list it says that the update is paused and on the downloads page it's showing content file locked.

I've tried verifying the integrity and each time it says that 22 files need to be re-downloaded and each time I get the 'content file locked' message.

Anyone had the same issue before?

Is Ark still running or not closed properly?

Shut down Steam and bring it back up.

I've tried closing steam and restarting the computer. When I press play I get this error

An error occurred while updating ARK: Survival Evolved (content file locked) :
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\\Content\ScorchedEarth\Environment\Canyons\Rocks\Cliffs\Materials\T_Rock_Combination_Layered.uasset

No other games are running and I've tried turning the Anti virus off but still the same.

I've Just tried another game and that updated and launched fine.

Have you tried verifying first - after a restart? Drive nearly full?

That looks like the update got stopped mid stream for that to occur.

I'll try that now, theres 90GB free space on the drive so that should be fine.

No good, 22 filed need to be reaquired, then I'm back at the same point with all of the above still unchanged.

I'm at a loss apart from doing the obvious - uninstalling the DLC, see if the games starts OK and putting the DLC back in. Not knowing how dependent the DLC is on core files, this may not be possible without a full reinstall of Ark too.

You could try deleting those files affected manually but if the lock is OS applied you may not be able to without changing attributes. (I'm guessing here, I don't have a precedent)

(As a note, drive corruption might also cause this issue but that's usually last resort.)

I can't find scorched earth to delete it. If I delete ark from steam and reinstall it, will that delete my characters too?

Yes but you can catch the save folder before you delete.

tbh, I've always considered complete uninstall and reinstall a poor choice because it's rarely the cause and may/may not be a fix.

Maybe catch your save folder, uninstall and do a full HDD scan before you reinstall. Failing that. lodge a ticket with support and they may have a fix for you.

Ark deleted and reinstalled and still have the same issue.... anyone got any ideas?

Just had a message to repair drive errors and it finished updating without issues.

sounds like your drive is failing, download and run crystaldisk and check your drives S.M.A.R.T status asap, also backup whatever stuff you care about just incase

Ark is on the SSD everything else of interest is just on extra hard drives that were from an old PC.
