For collecting you can use the following things on the island map:
I should mention, these are earlygame and lategame tames, the only difference between early game and late game is the levels your able to finish taming these at.

Thatch: best thatch collectors ingame are the male megaloceros (deer found in the redwoods)
Wood: Castoroides (Beaver found by rivers or lakes) Therizinosaurus (evil tickle chickens found everywhere) and mammoths, found in snow biomes, mammoths have more wood weight reduction then beavers and can follow yours around to store wood.
Stone: Doedicurus, found on mountains/hills
Metal: Ankylosaurus, Found on mountains, hills, and herbivore island

mosochops can harvest every resource i belive but you have to put points into them being able to

OK:

Berries/Thatch: Trike (But in some ways faster to get thatch by hand, as trikes tend to be slow)

Meat/Hide: Raptor (Tame a pack of dilos if you have issues finding a raptor)

Wood: Beaver (You can find these in shallow(ish) rivers. I would recommend just haresting wood, for your first bunch of hours, by hand as beavers are hard to tame without flyers/taming bins.

Stone: Doedicurus. But for your first bunch of hours just use a metal hatchet, as they are super rare on the island's beaches.

Metal: Ankylosaurus. Don't bother taming without metal in the first place. Tame a pterra (using a bola and tranq arrows) and fly to a mountain/peak and use a pick to gain metal that way. Once you have metal, make a cross bow and ankylo saddle and tame one. They commonly spawn arround mountains.

I beleive a youtuber called nooblets created a guide on which dinos are best for gathering which resources, so if you are struggling, I suggest looking that video up.

I hope this helps in some way!:steamhappy:

Once you get futhur into the game you can easuily transport your dinos from A to B. For instance, using a raft, a quetzal (who can fly and carry dinos on it's back) etc.

As a beginner the best option really is to tame things close by. At least to start with. Usually I don't tame an ankylo untill I have tame a stong argentavis (flyer) who can kill off any agressive dinos that want to kill your tame.

If you want you can tame what ever is around you and use those dinos to help you gather resources better/faster which in turn will provide better taming equipment.

Ride them back. It'll be an adventure! Or, go get an argy. They can carry everything mentioned in the last post.

Yeah that's why I tamed two trikes. Good protectors and have great utility. But the next big hurdle is a hefty supply of metal...

Once you have tamed a pterra (those flying dinosaurs commonly seen around the shores of the island), you have yourself a crossbow from metal (you don't need a lot) and at least 50 tanq arrows to go along with the bow, you can tame an argy. But first get a spy glass (you will need crystal, found ontop of mountains). Use this to see levels of dinosaurs from afar.

Now I would go back to the mountains (using your pterra) and find a high, but not too high lvl argentavis (as it could kill you if its too stong, maybe lvl 90 or lower) and make it get agressive towards your bird. Force it to follow you to the safe(ish) shores near your base but not too close.

Thens it's straight forwards(ish), just walk in circles and tranq it and try to avoid its claws. Once it begins to run away, shoot it down as fast as you can. Tame it up with same raw meat. The argentavis (since the latest update) can carry a resource and halve it's weight making it very usefull for metal collection. Hope this helps

Is the tavis better than the quetz for this reason?

Easiest way to transport dinos early game is via loot beacons (uploading)

On island : spawn, grind to raft, travel to herbi island, tame anky, ptera and berry farmers, collect metal. Use loot beacon that spawns there to move metal and dinos to new base location which you have scouted on your new Ptera.
