Egg farm
Anyone got any useful tips on how to efficiently harvest eggs from various creatures? I tried making a building where the animals stood on a ramp but they wouldnt lay eggs, any help welcome, looking for building ideas.

Find a server running structures + mod. Which dino are you refering to exactly? Some females also lay mpre eggs then others (RNG) you may just need to get a couple females or more . Also find a few oviraptors, weigh them down with stone so they can not move, put them on roaming and the help boost egg laying.

Another thing to try is to put Ptera sized dinos over trapdoors with a ramp under the trapdoor. You might want to try taming an Oviraptor as they give a boost to the egg laying also keep at least one male near by. I've never been sure if the mate boost gives an egg laying bonus, but it seems to. :) I know it can be a pain as I tend to miss the eggs a lot as well.

Other than that if you are playing SP or Unofficial you might want to try mods that have egg coliectors in them like S+ (The item collector can pick up eggs. Or Automatic Ark which has an Egg Colecter.

or if you are using s+, make a hatchery....gives the same egg boost as an oviraptor, and you can also use an s+ collector to pick up the eggs for you.

also, dinos will lay more eggs if you are actually around the egg pen ( in render distance )

A basic egg farm is: fence foundations, with walls about 2 high. Attach ramps to the wall top, you may need a pillar under the ramp somewhere. The edge of the ramp should be off the ground, you'll use two ramps in a spot or two to walk the creatures up. Put the egglayers on the ramps, so the eggs will mostly fall down to the ground. Place an oviraptor under the ramp to boost egglaying. Small male dinos (dilo, dimorph, dodo, etc) go under the ramp too.

Ratio of dinos should be 1 male to 3 females for decent egg production. Add an extra female or two if it's for kibble you use a lot of.

Awesome thanks folks, didnt know about the ovi bonus, that will help alot.

And in answer to the questions: Im playing single player, not a fan of online multi, it is not for one specific animal it is for lots of different types for making the different kibbles. Try not to use mods, only one I tend to use is the stacks mod.

I use S+ for the buildings and AA: so I can spend more time breeding the Dinos. :D
I'm only play on my Boyfriend's Rag server (Vanilla with Sprinkles, and Dinos set to max wild lvl 250). The mods don't make any changes to the Dinos or how to tame them which is why we use them. :D

We stack all our dinos above each other on ramps. Each floor has 5 dinos. 1 male 4 female. standing on the ground floor you have eggs raining down on you. BTW it helps to have the dinos rendered. If you go away from the base they stop laying and their cycle starts up again when you come back.

Do you have a screenshot you could post, badly in need of building ideas.

1 male 1 female of each type(for mate boosting and thus better egg production).

At least 1 oviraptor, 1 m and 1 f is also nice(since they'd drop more eggs).

Weigh down the oviraptors so they cannot move(ie max the weight with stone or such). Enable wandering.

Have all egg laying dino's in close enough range that they then get the egg icon over their heads.

Then just simply wait. Placing the dinos on ramps or similar does not break their egg laying.

Leaving render distance or going offline(on servers) will reduce dramatically the egg laying of the dinos due to going into stasis. Exiting single player game pauses it completely.

If in single player, use the advanced option sliders to dramatically increase egg production so that while you are in game the eggs drop as well or better than if you were on a server.

AA is the mod known as Automated Ark. It has many crafting and other stations including an automatic egg collector that doesnt require fuel to work(unlike S+'s).

As for Tipps: Make sure you have one or more Oviraptor, so that every Dino get`s the egg laying boost.

Allways have a Male and a Female, otherwise the Oviraptor Buff won`t work ( as far as i know! ).

I have never ever had problems with eggs falling trought the floor or ceilings or whatever. I have allways been able to put them on flat ceilings without any problems, the only reason for me to make ramps is to make the egg collecting easier.

One thing you might want to know is, that not all females can actually lay an egg. Only if they are "ready to mate" they will lay an egg, which is not officially confirmed.

However according to the Wiki you can only have X amounts of Eggs in an Area. So if you have some other bases around you, your egg production will be cut dramatically. Also if you don`t collect all the eggs.

For me the most efficient way was to not have to many dinos. If the area is to large or if you got like 4 Females you won`t get many eggs, because other dinos lay eggs and the egg limit will be full quickly. One Male, one Female is plenty and it gives you an egg every 10 Minutes with the Oviraptor Buff.

I would put the Dodo`s and Lystrosaurus etc on a sloped ceiling or ramp, just for making life easier, but the rest i wouldn`t bother with standing them on the floor, it made no difference to me. I found even the smalest eggs on the top level of the base.
