Floating base tips or tricks???
My tribe and I are planning on building a floating base in the middle of the ocean. We are wondering if there are any tricks to placing ceilings without needing to place pillars all the way down. The ocean floor where we are is about 20 pillars down so building with pillars is difficult. Let me know if you know any tips or tricks. Thanks!

Yes, you only need 1 column of pillars go down on the deepest side you want to build and one ceiling on the top |---------------------|-- like this but in vertical, and start placing pillars and ceilings in the deep pillar you can extend without collsion wiht the floor of the ocean, when you put all the ceilings you want for your desired size base, go up and extends the ceilings in the top without place pillars all way down. The ceilings in the depth works like foundations for the ceilings in the top, and all are connected by your first column. I try my best to explain you that, english it's not my language. Good luck ;)

Hope it's a PVE server. Take out that single column = everything demolished.

Even in PVE I would not risk a single pillar for my castle lol. Also, Structures+ allows level snaps regardless of ground terrain angle so if you have that and use multiples of the 5 high pillars you would have a nice level grid of pillars above the sea surface, even if the bottom of the sea is a slope.

Yeah, i know, but they ask tips for a floating base, and i think this the only way in vanilla game to make that or floating bridges or anything else. Structural safe, absolutely not for pvp, but for pve it's right, and maybe looks more beautiful and safe with 4 columns, one for corner ;)

Yeah I'm on pvp. Thy need to change it so you have to place a pillar at least every 6 ceilings.

Yeah that's a good point.

If on PVP, create your pillared foundations as you want, Pillars are so cheap I would do metal ones for each foundation gridspace, even if 20 high. Then, further out, do an underwater wall / pen around your entire base with an under water double gated behemoth entrance. Now you can have sea dinos in your hidden moat defending it. On the outside of the walls, place homing mines everywhere, that and turrets at the water line should give you some decent defence. I imagine you could also put ceilings at every section on the pillars leading up to the surface and spike them like crazy too although not tried that.

Even further out from your water pen, leave signs everywhere underwater that say "Danger" or "Armed" or something to put the curious off.

if you have the Structures + Mod installed, then you can use the vaccum comparments. They can be placed everywhere and you can remove parts without damaging the building. Each vacuum compartment has its own foundation supports.
Thats the best way to do it.

An other way is using the Pillars + Mod. But this Mod is a little buggy and has problems with locations too high above the ground. Vacuum compartments of S+ are much better because they are completely ignoring the building height and so on.

On vanilla Servers -> Not possible
