What is the best meat to feed dinos?
Hello.

I saw people saying normal meat is best than fish ones. (i talk about cooked ones)

But i saw too that expiration of fish ones are longer than normal meat...
So why people say it is better to feed with normal one if it takes shorter expiration?

i just feed all my carnivor dinos fish meat because a few of them wont eat anything else but fish meat. so now they all eat fish meat.

I just put any kibbles that can't be put in the fridges anymore and let them eat it from the tek trough. They last super long in there.

It depends on the dino. But here is an overall one.

Kibble. (For that animal)
Raw Matton
Cooked Matton
Raw prime meat
Cook prime meat
Raw Prime Fish Meat
Raw meat
Cooked Prime Fish Meat
Cooked meat
Raw fish meat
Cooked Fish meat

Small tip: An Ichthyornis is an easy method of getting great amounts of prime meat early in the game.

That is about of effective they are at getting taming progress. Without losing taming effectiveness.

Prime meat spoils in 2 minutes. But is 3 times more effective then raw meat.
Cooked prime meat is 1.5 times more effective then Cooked meat. And lasts 45 minutes.

But neither are as good as Matton.

Raw gives more points of food per unit, so if you feed raw meat, youl have to gather less than you will raw fish meat, also personally i dont think its worth feeding cooked meat, i feed my dinos like once every 5 days with raw meat (other than my giga, once every 2 days) and they are fine

Raw meat replenishes more food per item than raw fish meat. This means you need less of it. While raw meat doesn't last as long you don't have to stock as much. Since tames will eat certain foods first (raw before cooked, only eat prime/kibble if no other food is present, fish last) you can feed them with a mix of foods and they will eat just one (leaving the others as full stacks maximizing spoil time potential). Note that babies eat the LOWEST value food first. So trying to use a combo of long lasting cooked and high food value raw is not effective as they will eat the cooked meat while the raw meat just spoils. Hope this helps.

Oooh, didn't know for the baby. Thx mate.

Thx for these precious informations.
Yes, in fact it is for feed them when i am offline. So i was thinking that the long lasting cooked was the best one for them.

By the way i have another asking:
It is about the feeding trough. I saw that the feed lasts the same time that when you place it in dinos inventory.
If you doesn't activate the walking mode on dinos, they don't go eat in the feeding trough?
How is it working precisely?

Dinos will eat standing still, on passive and even unconcious from troughs, no need to make them wander as they can escape dino pens that way or get out of feeding trough range.

So if i have a pteranodon far from the feeding trough in passive mode and standing still, it will go automatically eat itself to the feeding trough?...
(and come back to its previous place?)

No, animals outside the feeding trough's range will not eat from the trough, that is why wandering is bad. The AI is not smart enough in ARK for animals to recognize and stay near food sources. Park your dinos within a 10 foundation radius of a feeding trough, or if your base is very large put feeding troughs around your base. You can tell if a dino is in range of a feeding trough by a little feeding trough icon above their heads. Be aware the icon is there at all times, even if the trough is empty so make sure you check the troughs regularly to fill them with food.

Thx.

Each meat has its own food regen. So prime gives 60, meat gives 40, fish meat gives a lower number, maybe 20? Not sure. Either way, prime gives the most but is harder to farm in large numbers, especially since it's used for recipes and kibbles, normal meat is the best because it fills more food up and is easy to farm mass amounts of, fish meat lasts longer but gives much less food.
