Are you trolling or legitimately not knowing that you can get metal- even from the beach- using a pick-axe.
There is no need to head to the mountains early game for metal. It takes time, but a stone pick will get enough metal for a forge, Smithy, and metal axe in early game.
Unless what you think of as early game is way way much lower in levels than what I would call early game, especially if you are building with wood.
Protip; bring a Lystro
You don't need a saddle to make the beaver to collect woods for you. Let it follow you, walk to the forest, when the beaver is very close to a tree, whistle "stop", the beaver will collect wood.
Works also for others creatures, i.e. doed for stones, etc.
You can do it even when you're collecting other things, or when you're on a triker collecting berries.
It's abit hard getting there, I suggest go from the green obilesk side it should be less dangerous. But try to avoid the swamp
