Aberration puke area

So, I entered an area just outside and to the right, up a hill from the portal. There were no mushrooms, but every time I went back to get my stuff and my ravagers, I died. I finally got my animals by running in and whistling then running out before dying. Then I went back to my body and found my ravagers. I guess I lost my stuff, though. So what is the deal with this zone? Is there something I don't know about? If so, how can I know where these areas are?

I don't understand what you're saying. What are you dying to exactly? Judging from your description, it sounds like either radiation or sunlight. If you go into radiation area (also known as red biome), you'd get radiation poisoning really fast if you're not properly equipped. There's also the "outside" where if it's sunny, it will melt you fast due to intense heat.

Such areas are identified by floating things in the air.

If you have your graphics turned right down you may find it harder to spot

Well, that's the point. There was nothing there. I just started puking and pooping anytime I entered that zone.

Thanks, I will turn my graphics up. They are not on the highest level, but I thought they were pretty good, at least, good enough to see the moon on other maps. I did see some floating things, but didn't know what they meant. Is there anything that can allow me to enter?

You can either eat a specific type of mushroom to reduce the timer (eventually getting rid of it altogether) or crafting a hazmard suit (all pieces). There are other surprises that give the same effect, so be on your toes! Ab is one of the more difficult expansions for new players.

Hazmat suit will protect you... Alternatively aggeravic mushrooms eaten before hand will give you immunity for a period of time.

If you're already affected... Eating the mushrooms will reduce the period of time you're vomiting and likely save your life.
