Considering Genesis is the latest installment of the story-line of Ark, where you are supposed to prove you are the "Ultimate" survivor, i would say its rather normal to struggle as a new player in this DLC.
Add to that the bog really isn't that easy to start it, it a recipe for disaster, try starting in the ocean biome instead.
But if your really new to Ark, id suggest starting with the first map called The Island and learn the basic game mechanics first, before attempting to play on DLC maps.
Yes it is, move to Ocean SE or E and enjoy paradise
Oddly enough, Ocean is far, far easier than bog, at least to start in. Seconding this.
There are very few safe spots in Bog, and getting caught by a Kapro or X-Raptor is pretty much the end. But I discovered that there are some spots in the center of Bog that are pretty safe. Just be careful for the Bog Spiders.
And as bonus, that area is also quite nice looking, if its the same area i'm thinking of.
Like even nicer then the rest of the bog, where it start to even branch off with small platforms in the tree's, like a small oasis on the branches etc.
Volcano and Lunar has a lot of hazards where players can't really start easily, and can get hit hard if they're not careful...even with good dinos. Magmasaur can actually break metal (although I'm not sure if wild magmasaurs can still do that after the nerf).
As the guy above me said, the other biomes are probably given higher difficulty ratings because they have some EXTREME penalties in those biomes, and require some super high level specialized equipment to really be able to survive there easily (or at least, efficiently)
With some levels on your character, the bog gets easier. There are lots of huge trees with hollow bases and these can be used as early base locations. Just block the openings, and the tree itself will provide walls.
Also, some dinos make you completely immune to the (horrific and annoying) insect swarms. If you're riding a sarco, they won't attack you, even if YOU attack them with the sarco. Bloodstalkers also make you immune to the insect swarms.
By the way, the insect swarms can't pass a solid 2 unit high wall. They can go up and over any natural terrain though, so if one end of your walls is based against some terrain that would normally be unclimbable, the insect swarms will go up and over it easily.
Yeah something like that, they hate my small dino's, but don't seem to bother my frogs or pachyrhino. Selective food chain ;-)
I tamed a few dinos and a swarm killed all my dinos. Even though the dinos were on neutral I guess the dinos can't kill swarms. So thats enough of this map. I am finding i don't really like it.
Being a Noob, you should try other maps, learn the basics, tame, breed, defeat Bosses. Then, try Genesis, when your character is above level 100 and has Tekgrams.
