But really, I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice. I’d say it comes down to how stressful/difficult you want the experience to be.
But I actually prefer red, because purple drop always gives me some ridiculously expensive mek blueprints because I am playing on difficulty of 9, although loot quality is the same as official.
Sometimes mastercraft mek bp has similar stats as ascendant but much cheaper. The best one I have found is a lvl ~330 ascendant, but it’s too girding to craft one in single player. And I finally picked one lvl ~300 mastercraft after countless hours of farming, the stats is slightly worse of couse, but acceptable when taking the cost into account.
On normal difficulty of 5 I think lvl 300 is equivalent to around lvl 170. You may want to find something around 200, and it should be craftable. It’s not hard to find a good mek, but the most cost-effective one.
And luck comes to the duty, so feel free to pick your prefer way of farming mek blueprints. Purple and red are both pretty decent I think, though you need more preparation for purple because it’s very hard.
And good luck ;)
Apologies for the late reply.
My experience collecting MEK blueprints was similar to collecting other higher tier blueprints. Somewhat random.
I’ve received higher level MEK blueprints that needs a moderate amount or resources, while other times, I’ll get a blueprint, around the same quality that will need a lot more resources to craft but won’t be that much better.
I was farming red drops several times a day and got just as many blueprints from Red OSD with less casualties than I did doing Purples OSD.
In the end I probably did half as may Purple OSD as I did Red ones and I came away with about 10 decent MEK blueprints.
