Connection Timeout settings?
I have a friend that has trouble connecting to the server. Me and another friend can connect alright, but for him right after the "loading mods" phase and he begins loading into the server he times out. I read somewhere something about the following settings:

P2PConnectionTimeout=300
InitialConnectTimeout=300.0
ConnectionTimeout=300.0

My question is where would I put these lines at on a nitrado server and would they make a difference?

Does your friend have all of the mods downloaded already? If not he might be getting timed out due to mods downloading and configuring.

IF he is, having him go to the workshop and predownload all mods. After that, he needs to AFK on the main menu while all of said mods configure (bottom right of the screen).

IF not, then i'm of no help. Maybe too many mods? How many do you run and which ones/how large are they? Mods of multi GB make loading in unbearably long.

Edit: verbiage.

There is about 33 mods added to the server with around 10 gbs total space. It takes about 15 to 18 minutes to load in for me which is alright cause the game still runs smooth for me and the other friend (The one who doesnt timeout).

The friend( the one that is having issues) has all mods installed and he says the server ping for the server looks good to him. The timeout happens right when the game officially starts to load, once all of the mods have loaded in.

Im wondering if I could change the connection timeout to something higher if that would fix it for him.

I'm not sure if Nitrado allows access to the defaultengine.ini file or connection settings.

You may want to reach out to their support team and explain the issue. It's a pain in the arse needing to do that, but it ensures that they can look into the issue and possibly extended connection time if needed.

Whenever you have a hosted server situation, you're always hostage to their platform unfortunately.

Just a wild guess - We play with only 4 mods routinely, everything on SSD, and I still time out occasionally when joining a new server with the same mods on a new toon. Same server operator either way.

I've tried to pre-download these mods (that I've been using for years on other toons) by unsubscribing then resubscribing to those mods. Nada.

In my experience, timeout is cured by logging back in and trying again, if mods are the issue.

As an aside, 33 mods seems an absurd number to start out with as well as 15 minutes to load once they are. Once I get those 4 mods we use loaded on a new toon, it only takes me 2 minutes or so for the game to load after that.

Edited Note: Just tested it, and it was less than a minute, after the "join" server was selected and typing the password. The server is hosted by a player within 200 miles of me, and both of us have decent bandwidth from our ISPs. My post is only meant as data points of what is possible in Ark, and not a solution for your particular case.

Time outs occur:

1. When a server is down.
2. When a player attempts to start on a server for the FIRST TIME.... OR.... if a NEW mod is added to an existing server and the player needs to download those mods. The player will time out after triggering to download the mod(s) from the workshop. They then after downloading, need then trigger the next mod to download and time out again until the process has fully been repeated.
3. The choices of mods for a server are done poorly and there are conflicts can can cause time outs and an inability to get into the server.
4. The player has firewalls up causing blocking.
5. The player has a poor connection, either from their wifi, isp, nodes to the server etc.
6. Player doesn't have their steam settings ping to 250.
7. Non-dedicated session already player capped.

And a few more.

Sorry but with 33 mods, there is an extremely high chance multiple mods are causing issues.

List all mod by name and in the correct load order being used.

Well I do have an HDD so I'd assume it would be much faster with an SSD. It's just my pc came with an SSD that ark wouldnt even dream of being able to fit on lol

You should see my skyrim mod list I put together lol, I came from console gaming to being a PC Gamer this year so I'll admit I tend to go crazy with mods.

This collection is the mods Im using in the order that its in on the server:

I suggest starting out with no mods, then adding the mods one at a time, beginning with the one you deem most important for your play style.

That way you can determine which is the most important, which mods might be conflicting with each other, and which mods are not worth the performance hit you are experiencing.

Sometimes resetting the modem and router can help. Is good to do that occasionally anyway.

One of our mate had a similar issue few days ago.

The client was timing out when joining.

Workaround suggested (and which worked):
1) load your client
2) click multiplayer
3) choose a server (any server that you NEVER played on) - this will preload the base game
4) DC when greeted with the player creation screen
5) load the usual map
